Since China's reform and opening up in 1978, the world's most populous country has enjoyed rapid economic development. This book series sheds new light on China's phenomenal success by examining its regional development and disparity. The series starts from first few volumes focusing on Zhejiang province, one of the country's forerunners in economic, social and political transformation. These volumes analyse Zhejiang's local governance innovation, regional economic development, and social and cultural changes over the past few decades.

Besides studies on Zhejiang province, the series will also include forthcoming volumes on other regions of China to present comprehensive analysis on regional development and disparities in economic, social and political fields in this country. The series is jointly launched by World Scientific Publishing, the most reputable English academic publisher in Asia and Zhejiang University Press, a leading university press in China. This is the first English series to present in-depth research on China's different regions and offers a unique perspective on China studies.
