    Abstract:

    The bicentennial commemoration consists of a year-long series of events to mark the 200th anniversary of the arrival of Sir Stamford Raffles in Singapore on 29 January 1819. The arrival of the British resulted in the creation of Singapore as a free port and marked the economic, physical, and social transformation of the island, which continues today.
