Chapter 5: Anode Design for Suppressing Zn Metal Dendrites
Aqueous Zn-ion batteries attract widespread attention toward future stationary energy storage systems due to their high safety and low cost. However, Zn metal anodes suffer from the dendrite issue, which could easily cause battery internal short circuit and consequent immature battery failure. In this regard, suppressing the Zn dendrite growth is of great importance for the future development of aqueous Zn-ion batteries. In this chapter, we will introduce three anode design strategies for suppressing Zn metal dendrites, i.e., substrate design, protective layer design, and porous structure design, where exemplary work from our group is presented for each strategy.
