SITE-SPECIFIC X-RAY PHOTOELECTRON SPECTRA OF TRANSITION-METAL OXIDES
In the present chapter we combine the X-ray standing wave technique with photoelectron spectroscopy (PES), thus rendering PES site specific. We determine the individual contributions of atoms within the unit cell to the total valence-band emission for the two transition-metal oxide compounds rutile TiO2 and corundum V2O3. Furthermore, we highlight the importance of both single-particle cross-section effects and many body excitation effects in the interpretation of photoelectron spectra.
