Technology Transfer by Multinational Firms: The Resource Cost of Transferring Technological Know-How
Reprinted from The Economic Journal 87 (June 1977), 242–261.
The findings described in this paper resulted from research undertaken for my Ph.D. dissertation, "The Multinational Corporation and the Resource Cost of International Technology Transfer" (Ballinger, Cambridge, Mass., 1976). The trenchant comments of Professor Edwin Mansfield were much appreciated during all phases of the study. My particular gratitude goes to the participating firms, without whose co-operation this paper would not have been possible. I should also like to acknowledge the financial support provided for this study by the National Science Foundation, under a grant to Professor Edwin Mansfield of the University of Pennsylvania.
