The population requiring dialysis is increasing by 5–6% worldwide and costs the NHS more than £1 billion per year.
Therapy includes transplantation, peritoneal and haemodialysis (HD).
Adequate HD requires relatively painless, durable, problem free access.
This chapter aims to give a framework for assessment, planning best access and dealing with complications.
