Abstract:

How do galaxies form? Why do they come in different shapes, colours and luminosity? And what can these features tell us about their population, evolution and environment? What do they have to do with the mysterious dark matter? In this chapter, we look at how the extensive catalogue of galaxies assembled by the Dark Energy Survey (DES) can be used to study galaxy evolution.
