MACLYN MCCARTY
Maclyn McCarty (b. 1911) is Professor Emeritus at The Rockefeller University in New York City. He graduated with an A.B. in biochemistry from Stanford University in 1933 and with an MD from Johns Hopkins University in 1937. He worked with Oswald T. Avery (1877–1955) in the early 1940s on the transforming principle. Their research culminated in the publication of the paper by O. T. Avery, C. M. MacLeod, and M. McCarty, “Studies of the Chemical Nature of the Substance Inducing Transformation of Pneumococcal Types,” Journal of Experimental Medicine 1944, 79, 137–158.
