    Jawi Peranakkan was the first Malay newspaper to be published in Singapore. In 1876, a group of prominent Jawi Peranakan (Straits-born Muslims of Malay-Indian parentage) led by Munshi Muhammad Said Dada Muhyiddin pooled together their capital to start a printing company, Matba’ al-Saidi located at number 431 Victoria Street.
