    Abstract:

Stable isotopes of light elements, with the exception of deuterium, have all been considered nearly equal participants in biochemical reactions. This paradigm is now questioned. Does the isotopic composition of biological molecules, such as enzymes, affect significantly their kinetic behavior, and if yes, what is the mechanism of such action? We found that the isotopic effects are indeed far greater than the conventional kinetic isotopic theory predicts, and are in broad agreement with the Isotopic Resonance hypothesis.
