Clinical Presentation and Diagnosis of Esophageal Adenocarcinoma
The most common presenting symptoms of adenocarcinoma of the esophagus are dysphagia, odynophagia and weight loss. Although these common symptoms often occur with solid food initially; over time swallowing of both solids and liquids can be affected. Additional symptoms may include coughing (from aspiration), pneumonia (from aspiration or trachea-esophageal fistula), chest pain, hematemesis, bony pain (metastases), hoarseness, and/or abdominal complaints.
