“IN VITRO” APATITE FORMATION ON TITANIA GEL SURFACES

Titania gels have been prepared by TiCl₄ hydrolysis and neutralization with NaOH or NH₄OH. The gels so obtained were shaped as rods or coatings of cylindrical substrates of a Ti64VAl alloy, “in vitro” studies effectuated by immersing the samples in Simulated Body Fluid (SBF) at 37°C showed the formation of an amorphous calcium phosphate layer. This process was followed by XRD and monitoring the variations of ionic concentration and pH in the fluid.
