A Study of Duplex Melting Process with Blast and Medium Frequency Furnaces in the Production of Cast Iron
This work is supported by National Science & Technology Major Project of China (No. 2012ZX04010-031).
The differences of two melting process, which are conventional medium frequency furnace melting and duplex melting with blast and medium frequency furnaces have been investigated. It is shown that the short-cut duplex melting process resulted in higher undercooling of the iron melt, more undercooled graphite in the microstructure, higher tensile strength and hardness worsening the machinability depending on different conditions. Modification of composition, the carbon content in this study, and enhancing inoculation can eliminate the adverse influence of changing the melting process.
