This paper introduces two types of Lorenz-like three-dimensional quadratic autonomous chaotic systems with 7 and 8 new parameters free of choice, respectively. Both systems are investigated at the equilibriums to study their chaotic characteristics. We focus our attention on the second type of the introduced system which consists of three nonlinear quadratic equations. Predictably, coordinates of the equilibriums are prohibitively complex. Therefore, instead of directly analyzing their stability, we prove the asymptotical characterization of equilibriums by utilizing our preliminary results derived for the first type of system. Our result shows that, though the coordinates of equilibriums satisfy a ternary quadratic, the system still contains only three equilibriums in circumstances of chaos. Sufficient conditions for the chaotic appearance of systems are derived. Our results are further verified by numerical simulations and the maximum Lyapunov exponent for several examples. Our research takes a first step in investigating chaos in Lorenz-like dynamic systems with strengthened nonlinearity and general forms of parameters.

This paper studies the problem of accumulating heterogeneous capital goods in an economy with imperfect markets populated by boundedly rational agents. It relaxes classical assumptions about information and cognition. The agents are not capable of computing an equilibrium path to steady state. Agents discover prices by interacting with each other. The economy accumulates a near-optimal mix of capital goods. The structure of interactions between agents filters their behavior in such a way that limited rationality at the micro-level does not translate to grossly inefficient outcomes at the macro-level.

We develop an influenza pandemic model with quarantine and treatment, and analyze the dynamics of the model. Analytical results of the model show that, if basic reproduction number , the disease-free equilibrium (DFE) is globally asymptotically stable, if , the disease is uniformly persistent. The model is then extended to assess the impact of three anti-influenza control measures, precaution, quarantine and treatment, by re-formulating the model as an optimal control problem. We focus primarily on controlling disease with a possible minimal the systemic cost. Pontryagin's maximum principle is used to characterize the optimal levels of the three controls. Numerical simulations of the optimality system, using a set of reasonable parameter values, indicate that the precaution measure is more effective in reducing disease transmission than the other two control measures. The precaution measure should be emphasized.

We develop and analyze a mathematical model for the transmission dynamics of HIV that accounts for behavioral change. The contact rate is modeled by a decreasing function (response function) of HIV prevalence to reflect a reduction in risky behavior that results from the awareness of individuals to a higher HIV prevalence. The model also includes a distributed delay representing the time needed for individuals to reduce their risky behavior. We study mathematically and numerically the impact of the response function and the distributed delay on the model's dynamics. Threshold values for the delay at which the system destabilizes and periodic solutions can arise through Hopf bifurcation are determined.

This paper focuses on the stabilities of the equilibria to a predator–prey model with stage structure incorporating prey refuge. By analyzing the characteristic functions, we obtain that the equilibria of the model are locally stable when some suitable conditions are being satisfied. According to the comparison theorem and iteration technique, the globally asymptotic stability of the positive equilibrium is discussed. And, the sufficient conditions of the global stability to the trivial equilibrium and the boundary equilibrium are derived. The study shows that the prey refuge will enhance the density of the prey species, and it will decrease the density of predator species. Finally, some numerical simulations are carried out to show the efficiency of our main results.

In this paper, a three-species system consisting of two predators which are in mutualism with each other and preying on the same single prey is considered. Also, the prey and first predator are harvested under optimal conditions. The values of the biological parameters depend on the collection of data from the experts as well as on the nature of the environment in which prey–predator system are considered. So the biological parameters are not precise in reality. This paper presents a different approach to study the prey–predator model with imprecise biological parameters. All the possible equilibrium points are identified and the local as well as global stability criteria under impreciseness are discussed. The possibility of existence of bionomic equilibrium is discussed. The optimal harvesting policy is studied using Pontryagin’s maximum principle. Numerical examples are provided to support the proposed approach.

In this paper, a two-species harvesting model has been considered and developed a solution procedure which is able to calculate the equilibrium points of the model where some biological parameters of the model are interval numbers. A parametric mathematical program is formulated to find the biological equilibrium of the model for different values of parameters. This interval-valued problem is converted into an equivalent crisp model using interval mathematics. The main advantage of the proposed procedure is that different characteristics of the model can be presented in a single framework. Analytically, the existence of steady state and stabilities are looked into. Using mathematical software, the model is illustrated and the results are obtained and presented in tabular and graphical forms.

Paddy growth is influenced by the amount of inorganic fertilizer in paddy ecosystem in fallow season. To discover the interaction among weed, inorganic fertilizer and herbivore in the system, we put forward a differential equation model and investigate its properties. Results show that the system has a weed and herbivore extinct equilibrium and a herbivore extinct equilibrium. The two equilibria are proven to be unstable using the center manifold method. Under certain conditions, the system also has a positive equilibrium point. We give the stable region and the unstable region of the positive equilibrium point, which are determined by some parameters. We find that the system has the Hopf bifurcation phenomenon, and give the critical value of Hopf bifurcation by taking a system parameter as the bifurcation parameter. By comparing the equilibrium states between a paddy ecosystem with herbivore and one without herbivore, we find that the content of inorganic fertilizer can be improved by putting herbivore into a paddy field. An example is given to illustrate the feasibility of the results. Numerical simulation shows that Hopf bifurcation phenomena exist in the system.

In this paper, an epidemic model of a vector-borne disease, namely, malaria, is considered. The explicit expression of the basic reproduction number is obtained, the local and global asymptotical stability of the disease-free equilibrium is proved under certain conditions. It is shown that the model exhibits the phenomenon of backward bifurcation where the stable disease-free equilibrium coexists with a stable endemic equilibrium. Further, it is proved that the unique endemic equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable under certain conditions.

We propose a multi-scale modeling framework to investigate the transmission dynamics of cholera. At the population level, we employ a SIR model for the between-host transmission of the disease. At the individual host level, we describe the evolution of the pathogen within the human body. The between-host and within-host dynamics are connected through an environmental equation that characterizes the growth of the pathogen and its interaction with the hosts outside the human body. We put a special emphasis on the within-host dynamics by making a distinction for each individual host. We conduct both mathematical analysis and numerical simulation for our model in order to explore various scenarios associated with cholera transmission and to better understand the complex, multi-scale disease dynamics.

Dengue is an acute arthropode-borne virus, belonging to the family Flaviviridae. Currently, there are no vaccines or treatments available against dengue. Thus it is important to understand the dynamics of dengue in order to control the infection. In this paper, we study the long-term dynamics of the model that is presented in [S. D. Perera and S. S. N. Perera, Simulation model for dynamics of dengue with innate and humoral immune responses, Comput. Math. Methods Med.2018 (2018) 8798057, 18 pp. https://doi.org/10.1155/2018/8798057] which describes the interaction of virus with infected and uninfected cells in the presence of innate and humoral immune responses. It was found the model has three equilibria, namely: infection free equilibrium, no immune equilibrium and endemic equilibrium, then analyzed its stability analytically. The analytical findings of each model have been exemplified by numerical simulations. Given the fact that intensity of dengue virus replication at early times of infection could determine clinical outcomes, it is important to understand the impact of innate immunity, which is believed to be the first line of defense against an invading pathogen. For this we carry out a simulation case study to investigate the importance of innate immune response on dengue virus dynamics. A comparison was done assuming that innate immunity was active; innate immunity was in quasi-steady state and innate immunity was inactive during the virus replication process. By a further analysis of the qualitative behavior of the quasi-steady state, it was observed that innate immune response plays a pivotal role in dengue virus dynamics. It can change the dynamical behavior of the system and is essential for the virus clearance.

Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) has a serious impact on human health and life safety. In order to study its related factors, this paper establishes an HIV/AIDS model with treatment individuals based on heterosexual contact and male-to-male sexual contact. Using the method of next generation matrix, the threshold $R_0$ of the model is given. When $R_0<1$, it proves the global stability of the disease-free equilibrium. When $R_0>1$, it studies the dynamics of the boundary equilibrium and the endemic equilibrium under different conditions. Finally, through numerical simulations, the correctness of the theoretical results is verified. The key parameters affecting the spread of HIV are found through parameter sensitivity analysis, which provides a theoretical basis for effective control of the spread of HIV.

For food chain system with three populations, direct predation is the basic interaction between species. Different species often have different predation functional responses, so a food chain system with Holling-II response for middle predator and Beddinton–DeAngelis response for top predator is proposed. Apart from direct predation, predator population can significantly impact the survival of prey population by inducing the prey’s fear, but the impact often possesses a time delay. This paper is concentrated to explore how the fear and time delay affect the system stability and the species persistence. By use of Lyapunov functional method and bifurcation theory, the positiveness and boundedness of solutions, local and global behavior of species, the system stability around the equilibrium states and various kinds of bifurcation are investigated. Numerically, some simulations are carried out to validate the main findings and the critical values of the bifurcation parameters of fear and conversion rate are obtained. It is observed that fear and delay can not only stabilize, but also destabilize the system, which depends on the magnitude of the fear and delay. The system varies from unstable to stable due to the continuous increase of the prey’s fear by middle predator. Small fear induced by top predator or small delay of the prey’s fear can stabilize the system, while they are sufficiently large, the system stability is to be destroyed. Simultaneously, the conversion rate can also change the stability and even make the species to be extinct. Some rich dynamics like multiple stabilities and various types of bistability behaviors are also exhibited, which results in the convergence of the species from one stable equilibrium to another.

The paper focuses on the study of an epidemic model for the evolution of diseases, using stochastic models. We demonstrated the encoding of this intricate model into formalisms suitable for analysis with advanced stochastic model checkers. A co-infection model’s dynamics were modeled as an Ito–Levy stochastic differential equations system, representing a compartmental system shaped by disease complexity. Initially, we established a deterministic system based on presumptions and disease-related traits. Through non-traditional analytical methods, two key asymptotic properties: eradication and continuation in the mean were demonstrated. Section 2 provides a detailed construction of the model. Section 3 results confirm that the outcome is biologically well-behaved. Utilizing simulations, we tested and confirmed the stability of all equilibrium points. The ergodic stationary distribution and extinction conditions of the system are thoroughly analyzed. Investigations were made into the stochastic system’s probability density function, and digital simulations were employed to illustrate the probability density function and systems’ extinction. Although infectious disease control and eradication are major public health goals, global eradication proves challenging. Local disease extinction is possible, but it may reoccur. Extinction is more feasible with a lower ${𝒦}$. Notably, our simulations showed that reducing the ${𝒦}$ value significantly increases the likelihood of disease extinction and reduces the probability of future recurrence. Additionally, our study provides insights into the conditions under which a disease can persist or become extinct, contributing to more effective disease control strategies in public health.

A nonlinear dynamical model is developed in this paper that depicts interactions among vultures, human, animals and their carcasses. Diseases such as plague, anthrax and rabies are spreading due to the cascade impact caused by the catastrophic drop in the vulture population, particularly in Africa and Asia. The built model is theoretically studied using qualitative differential-equation theory to demonstrate the system’s rich dynamical features, which are critical for maintaining the ecosystem’s equilibrium. According to the qualitative findings, depending on the parameter combinations, the system not only displays stability of many equilibrium states but also experiences transcritical and Hopf bifurcations. By keeping an eye on the variables causing the decline of the vulture population, the model’s outputs may assist in maintaining balance with the prevention of the spread of disease through carcasses. Hopf-bifurcation results in the bifurcation of the limit cycle through the threshold, supporting the idea that interactions between humans and vultures may also be periodic.

In this paper, we investigate the dynamic behavior of an HIV model with stochastic perturbation. Firstly, in ODE model, the disease-free equilibrium E⁰ is globally asymptotically stable if the basic reproductive number R₀ < 1. When R₀ > 1, the endemic equilibrium E* is globally asymptotically stable. Secondly, the criterion for robustness of the system is established under stochastic perturbations. The conditions of stochastic stability of the endemic equilibrium E* are obtained. Finally, we simulate our analytical results.

In this paper, we investigate the models of the impulsive cellular neural network with generalized constant piecewise delay (IDEGPCD). To guarantee the existence, uniqueness and global exponential stability of the equilibrium state, several new adequate conditions are obtained, which extend the results of the previous literature. The method is based on utilizing Banach’s fixed point theorem and a new IDEGPCD’s Gronwall inequality. The criteria given are easy to check and when the impulsive effects do not affect, the results can be extracted from those of the non-impulsive systems. Typical numerical simulation examples are used to show the validity and effectiveness of the proposed results. We end the paper with a brief conclusion.
