Editorial Message

It is with enthusiasm that we present this special issue in partnership with the Conference on Complex Systems 2024 (CCS’24), to be held at the University of Exeter, UK, from 02 to 06 September 2024.

A community-driven journal with the goal of promoting cross-fertilization of ideas among all scientific disciplines having to deal with their own complex systems, Advances in Complex Systems seeks to publish relevant or extended works from the conference participants, under the broad topics of:

1. Foundations of Complex Systems, Basic Sciences, Quantum Complexity;
2. Complex Networks;
3. Social Systems;
4. Ecological Systems;
5. City Science, Mobility and Transport;
6. Energy, Environment, Sustainability, Climate and Global Change;
7. Complexity in Biology and Health Sciences

With this special issue partnership, we hope to supplement your experience at CCS’24 and look forward to your submissions.

Timeline and Submission Process

The deadline for submission of papers to the topical issue is November 30, 2025. Accepted manuscripts will be published ‘online first’ as soon as they are ready.

Please submit your work using our online submission system and select “ACS at CCS’24 Exeter” as the article type. If this is your first time submitting, you will need to create an account from which you can upload your manuscript files and track your submission. Following submission, all manuscripts will be assigned to a handling editor and subject to peer review.

We Support Open Access

While articles may be published under the journal’s subscription model, we encourage and offer the option to publish as Open Access, to maximize the visibility of authors’ works and to be compliant with funding mandates. To that end, ACS grants all CCS’24 participants an exclusive 30% discount in OA article processing charges.

World Scientific also has a joint agreement with JISC to allow partnering UK's Higher Education Institutions (HEI) to publish Open Access free-of-charge in the year 2024.
