Special Issue on Offshore Renewable Energy

Guest Editors:
Dr. Lin Cui (National Ocean Technology Centre, China)
Prof. Lars Johanning (University of Exeter, UK)
Dr. Siming Zheng (University of Plymouth, UK)

(to be expanded…)

Offshore renewable energy is a fast-growing sector in offshore area that can obviously reduce the utilization of fossil fuels and contribute to the carbon neutrality under current global decarbonization needs. Wave, tidal, ocean thermal, offshore wind and solar energy have been the major elements of offshore renewable energy which are still facing great challenge in technology development and industrial promotion due to the tough and more risk ocean environment. The technology in offshore renewable energy is still in the stage of high proportion R&D work compared with the other mature industries like automobile or aviation. At present, international research community has recognized the offshore renewable energy as the most promising research area in the next twenty years and anticipate that it can act as more important role in the global energy transition. But even with high expectation, there are also many fundamental research works need to be done in this area, including the combination of modelling methods in hydrodynamic and mechanic, the simulation under multiple physics system or environment, the coupled control strategy for complex power generation system, etc. Compared with traditional energy technology or industry, the offshore renewable energy needs further exploration and promotion in the academic innovation level.

This special issue aims to provide the opportunity for academic and industrial communities to publish cutting-edge original research advances and novel technical work in offshore renewable energy sector. Manuscripts pertaining to new method or novel design for offshore renewable energy system are especially welcome. Topics of interest in this special issue include, but are not limited to

  • Resource characterization and assessment
  • Hydrodynamic modelling and numerical simulation
  • Device development, optimization and testing;
  • Nonlinear or complex PTO and electrical control
  • Grid integration and energy storage
  • Novel design for floating system
  • Extreme loading and materials fatigue
  • Station keeping like mooring and anchor
  • Array/Farms
  • Environmental impact assessment and economic-social aspects
As Guest Editors, we invite you to submit your work to our special issue for potential publication in International Journal of Ocean and Coastal Engineering. All submitted work will be peer-reviewed.

Submission:
Submissions are to be submitted and reviewed on the Editorial Manager system: https://www.editorialmanager.com/ijoce/default1.aspx

When submitting your paper, first, in the "Article Type" field, select "Special Issue". Then later in the "Section/Category" field, select" Special Issue: Offshore Renewable Energy". In addition, please mention the name of the Special Issue in your Cover Letter. All manuscripts will be peer-reviewed in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the journal. The final papers will be selected for publication depending on the results of the peer review process and the reviews of the Guest Editors and Editors-in-Chief.

For the formatting of your paper, please download and use the templates (directly editable): https://www.worldscientific.com/page/ijoce/submission-guidelines, paying special attention to how the references are styled.
