Train-bridge Interactions and Applications
The modern railway systems are developing towards the higher speed and heavier haul railway systems. Bridges serve as a critical element in the railway infrastructures. With increase in train operating speed, axle weight, and freight volume, dynamic interactions between the train and bridge are continuously growing. Train-bridge coupled dynamic analyses play an important role in the design, inspection/monitoring, assessment, and operation & maintenance of railway bridges, and aid in guaranteeing the running safety of trains on the bridge. Much research attention has been paid on the train-bridge interaction (TBI) and its engineering application over the past several decades partly due to the widespread construction of high speed and heavy haul railways across the globe. Research progress in the TBI dynamics which fall within the scope of the International Journal of Structural Stability and Dynamics has recently been continuously made. Therefore, a special issue on recent advances in train-bridge interactions and applications will serve as a platform for gathering and exchanging the state-of-the-art achievements in such subject.
Topics of interest:
This special issue focuses on recent advances in train-bridge interactions and applications. The topics include, but are not limited to:
- Train-bridge coupled dynamics in high-speed railways, heavy haul railways, and urban rail transit.
- Bridge inspection/monitoring methods using vehicles.
- Bridge condition evaluation and performance prediction based on TBI.
- Dynamic response analysis of TBI systems subjected to wind, seismic, and collision loads.
- Application of artificial intelligence in the train-bridge coupled dynamics.
- Random vibration analysis of TBI systems.

The deadline for submission of manuscripts: October 15, 2024
First review comments: December 15, 2025
The deadline for Submission of revisions: January 30, 2025
Second review comments: March 15, 2025
The deadline for final submission to the journal: April 30, 2025.
