Short and ambiguous queries are the major problems in search engines which lead to irrelevant information retrieval for the users’ input. The increasing nature of the information on the web also makes various difficulties for the search engine to provide the users needed results. The web search engine experience the ill effects of ambiguity, since the queries are looked at on a rational level rather than the semantic level. In this paper, for improving the performance of search engine as of the users’ interest, personalization is based on the users’ clicks and bookmarking is proposed. Modified agglomerative clustering is used in this work for clustering the results. The experimental results prove that the proposed work scores better precision, recall and F-score.

Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is very common among the major types of cardiovascular diseases, and there are several studies created with different features including data that is collected from patients for timely diagnosis of CAD.

In this study, a dataset with 21 features have been used, and a risk score prediction system has been proposed. The patients were divided into four groups. To determine the effective features of CAD dataset; t-test and Relief-f methods on Logistic Regression Analysis (LRA); Relief-f on Neural Network (NN) feature selection methods were utilized.

Sampling methods were used to improve imbalanced form of 4-classed dataset, and the effects of sampling methods were evaluated. Using NN with oversampling and Relief-f feature selection method; the results before the preprocess operations were detected as follows; 72.3% accuracy; after the operations, 84.1% accuracy were achieved with 0.84 sensitivity 0.94 specificity. These statistics obtained from the experiment, by detailed analysis, are the best ones for the CAD data set in this study.

Using the feature selection and the sampling methods with the NN substantially improve the prediction accuracy as well as the other metrics. This suggests that these preprocessing methods and the NN may be used together to construct for prediction of the 4-classed imbalanced medical datasets.

The effectiveness of cross entropy (CE) method has been investigated on both combinatorial and continuous optimization problems, though it lacks exploitative search to refine solutions. Hybrid with local search (LS) method can greatly improve the performance of evolutionary algorithm. This paper proposes a parameter-less framework combining CE with LS method. Four LS methods are chosen and four combination algorithms are obtained after combining them with the CE method. We first study the performance of the four combinations on a set of twenty eight mathematical functions including both unimodal and multimodal functions. CE hybrid with Powell’s method (CE-Pow) is identified as the most effective algorithm. Then the CE-Pow algorithm is applied to resolve proportional, integral, and derivative (PID) controller design problem and Lennard-Jones potential problem. Its performance has been verified by comparing with four state of the art evolutionary algorithms. Experimental results show that CE-Pow significantly outperforms other benchmark algorithms.

Collaborative filtering methods are widely accepted and used for item recommendation in various applications and domains. Their simplicity and ability to provide recommendations without the need for specific domain knowledge makes them utilized in both academic and industrial community. However, continuous dynamics of the system makes them vulnerable on different kind of changes, such as the change in user’s preferences or the appearance of new users and items in the system. It is particularly emphasized in user-based collaborative filtering recommendations which are based on both users and its nearest neighbor’s long-term profiles. In this work an approach is presented in order to recognize some of the changes and provide an upgraded model that provides improved performance. Such changes include deviations in user’s mean ratings, changes in neighbors’ similarities, as well as deviations from neighbors’ mean rating. For each of the proposed improvements a set of matching parameters are identified that form a long-term user’s profile. The performance of the proposed models compared to standard user-based collaborative filtering methods is evaluated in terms of prediction accuracy. The experimental results performed on real data set show sound improvement utilizing adjustment of deviations from user’s mean ratings and the neighbor’s similarities, as well as promising improvement with adjustment of neighbor’s mean ratings.

In the last decade a new variety of nature inspired optimization algorithms has been appeared. After the swarm based models, researchers turned their inspiration in nature phenomena and laws of science. In this way a new category of algorithms was born, equally effective or even sometimes superior to known algorithms for optimization problems, like genetic algorithms and swarm intelligence schemes. The present survey depicts the evolution of research on nature inspired optimization algorithms related to physical phenomena and laws of science and discusses the possibilities of using the presented approaches in a number of different applications. An attempt has been made to draw conclusions on what algorithm could be used in which different problem areas, for those approaches that this information could be extracted from the related papers studied. The paper also underlines the usage of this kind of nature inspired algorithms in industrial research problems, due to their better confrontation with optimization problems represented with nodes and edges.

With a rapid increase in e-commerce websites, people are often interested in analyzing customer reviews expressing customer sentiments on different features of a product before making purchase decisions. In this paper, we present ABSA (Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis) Toolkit developed for performing aspect-level sentiment analysis on customer reviews. The system has two main phases: (a) development phase and (b) production phase. The development phase allows a user to train models for performing aspect level sentiment analysis tasks on the target domain. In the production phase, a web application is provided through which an end user can submit reviews to analyze aspect level sentiments. The system is built using state-of-the-art approaches of aspect term extraction, aspect category detection, and aspect polarity identification. To the best of our knowledge, there is no framework publicly available to build aspect-level sentiment analysis application. All the source code of the ABSA toolkit is available on GitHub.

A novel approach of weighted support vector regression (WSVR) technique with applied chance theory was proposed to build a robust forecasting model, called the chance weighted support vector regression (chWSVR) model. In order to forecast the particulate matter air pollutant of diameter less than 10 micrometers (PM₁₀) one hour advance in the Greater Cairo Metropolitan Area (GCMA) in Egypt. The chance theory has advanced concepts pertinent to treat cases where both randomness and fuzziness play simultaneous roles at one time. The basic idea based on the proposed chWSVR model is assigning the chance weight value of the target variable, based on the chance theory, to its corresponding dataset point to become minimized in the objective function making that point more significant during the training process. Measuring data were collected and reprocessed from four monitoring stations located in GCMA and relative to the springs during the period from 2007 to 2010. The results of such model compared to similar ones built by other machine learning techniques, Random Forest and Bootstrap aggregating techniques. In all stations, comparing such models revealed that the proposed chWSVR model findings were promising in the forecasting of PM₁₀ hourly concentration.

This article summarizes reviews regarding the evolution of intelligent decision-support systems (IDSS). After doing an extensive literature survey, it was apparent that the theoretical foundation of IDSS has not undergone much improvement. The emergence and development of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) provides a new theoretical perspective for constructing and developing IDSS. An AGI project, Non-Axiomatic Reasoning System (NARS), is built into the framework of a unified reasoning system, with a logic, Non-Axiomatic Logic (NAL). In this paper, we propose a formal model with unified planning, learning and uncertainty representation capabilities using NAL. We have developed a prototype decision-support system for urban fire-fighting within this framework, and obtained results demonstrating that this method can provide an effective way for intelligent decision-support systems.
