In this paper, the counter-current imbibition phenomenon is discussed in a fractured heterogeneous porous medium under the effect of magnetic field due to the presence of magnetic fluid particles in injected fluids as well as the effects of inclination, capillarity, relative permeability and the viscosity variation of native fluids on saturation rate and on the recovery rate are considered. The homotopy analysis method is used to derive an expression for finding the saturation profiles and to study the recovery rate of the reservoir with some interesting choices of parameters.

In this paper, we consider a time-fractional porous medium equation in the imbibition phenomenon in a water-wet porous medium. The Homotopy analysis method, along with its stability analysis via fixed point theory, is used to solve the fractional-order porous medium equation and to study the behavior of different fractional orders on the saturation rate of the medium with the consideration of some parametric effects.

Recently, many literature studies have focused on the development on new elements in finite elements. This paper aims to develop a new quadrature for the 3-node triangular element for the purpose of evaluation of element stiffness matrix. The analysis of triangular element is usually done in a quadrilateral element by dividing the quadrilateral element into two. The edge sampling point quadrature is a mimics of Gauss numerical integration scheme. This sampling integration scheme consists of five sampling points and weights where four sampling points are at the edge and one at the center of the element. Accuracy of results, convergence of the results and stability of values have been tested using the standard benchmarked problems defined by various research studies.

Density functional perturbation theory (DFPT) and time-dependent density functional perturbation theory (TDDFPT) calculations were employed to study the molecular and electronic structures, linear and nonlinear optical properties, optical phonon modes and vibrational properties of the interaction of poly(9-vinylcarbazole) (PVK)–small-diameter single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) composites. Our calculations show that the chemical connection between PVK and SWCNTs is only through the relatively weak $\pi$–$\pi$ and $\pi$–H bonds. PVK and SWCNTs have different electron accepting abilities and we believe this is the major factor responsible for the charge transfer processes we observe in the calculations. We notice an increase in polarizability value from 152 a.u. (PVK) to 517 a.u. (PVK–SWCNTs), making the PVK–SWCNT composite an ideal model for applications such as mechanical and optoelectronics. Also, the result of our calculations under the time-dependent density functional perturbation theory hinges on the idea that the large value of the polarizability calculated for our composite model is an attribute which can be inferred to processes of charge transfer. Our finding corroborates the fact that non-covalent functionalization is one of the effective chemical methods by which the nonlinear optical response properties of PVK–SWCNT composite may be enhanced.

In this paper, the MHD Jeffery–Hamel flow with cu-water nanofluid between two smooth rectangular walls with the transverse magnetic field is studied. Differential transform method (DTM) is used to obtain the velocity profile of Jeffery–Hamel flow in both convergent and divergent channels for different values of Reynolds number and Hartmann number. Finally, to examine the accuracy and the validity of the method, the obtained results have been compared with the available collation method results.

In this work, differently shaped carbon nano-sized allotropes reinforced composite properties are estimated and interfacial stresses are calculated and compared to get the best carbon reinforcement. Carbon nanopowder, carbon nanotubes, nanographene and Buckminster fullerenes are selected as these materials have different shapes and reinforcement of these materials in the aluminium matrix will give different properties. The comparative studies are performed by using the Micromechanics and Finite element method. The longitudinal, transverse modulus, Poisson’s ratio are estimated along with the interface stresses between the constituents of carbon power/Al matrix composite, fullerene/Al matrix composite, CNT/Al matrix composite and graphene/Al matrix composite. From this work, it is found that the longitudinal modulus of the composite will be higher by using CNT or Graphene reinforcement and carbon particle or Buckminster fullerene reinforcement will give high transverse modulus than CNT and graphene reinforcement. The interfacial stresses generated between the reinforcement and the Aluminum matrix will be less by using carbon nanopowder than the other allotropes consider for the studies. This work will give an idea of the selection of nanoreinforcement of composite material in the perspective of elastic properties and interfacial stresses.
