Ultrasonic Welding is a popular welding procedure that uses high-frequency energy to heat joints. It is a complicated process involving a number of variable parameters that can each greatly modify the final weld product. A number of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies have thus been employed to regress and classify results such as weld parameters such as failure load, weld quality and joint strength on the basis of different parameters including power output, annealing temperature and vibration amplitude. Artificial neural network models are the most popular and adept at weld modeling on varying materials and composites. This paper reviews and compares the materials, feature extraction techniques and AI architectures and their performances on predicting a host of welding objectives.

The torsional study of bone cross-sections consisting of porous and functionally graded material (FGM) is presented in this paper. The modeling of the bone can be thought of as an FGM. For the modeling of FGM material, a classical power law is used. The strength of the bone is reduced when the microstructure of the bone changes with age. Saint-Venant torsion theory is used to formulate the governing equation. Thin plate spline (TPS) radial basis function-based collocation meshfree method is used for discretization and solution of the governing differential equations. The discretized partial differential equations are solved using MATLAB programming. To assess the effectiveness and accuracy of the current TPS-based meshfree approach, numerical examples for circular and hollow circular sections were used to conduct a convergence and validation test. Finally, the torsional rigidity and shear stress of the FGM and porous bone sections are estimated using an actual cross-section of the bone. After conducting a convergence study, a method is developed to produce fresh findings for the actual bone shape section.

The nonlocal elasticity theory and the Euler–Bernoulli (EB) beam theory are used to present closed-form analytical expressions for static bending, axial buckling, and free vibration of nanosized beams resting on an elastic foundation. The differential constitutive relations of Eringen are utilized to represent the small-scale effects of the nanobeam’s mechanical response. The governing equation of motion is derived by employing Hamilton’s principle. Utilizing the Laplace transform approach, analytical expressions of the bending displacements, the critical buckling force, and the vibration frequency of nanobeams with simply supported (S-S), clamped, cantilevered, and propped cantilevered boundary conditions are produced. In order to confirm the correctness of the offered closed-form equations, their outputs are compared to those of the available numerical method solutions. The effects of the Winkler parameter, the Pasternak parameter and the nonlocal parameter on bending, buckling, and vibration characteristics of nanobeams have been explained. Presented analytical expressions and graphical representations demonstrate how increasing Winkler and Pasternak parameters reduce bending displacements while raising the critical buckling load and the natural frequency of nonlocal nanobeams. Benchmark numerical results are also presented to investigate and discuss the effects of all parameters on bending deflections, buckling loads, and natural frequencies of nanobeams.

Within the framework of an interionic potential model, electrostatic and repulsive energies, lattice self-potentials for distinct ions, and the Madelung constant were calculated for several technologically important layered alkaline-earth fluorohalide scintillators belonging to the matlockite family and crystallizing with the PbFCl-type structure. The Coulombic term was computed using the conventional Ewald method, where the formulas were adjusted to optimize the computer calculation, and the overlap repulsive term was computed by means of an empirical approach based on the compressible ionic theory. The dispersive contribution was quantified using well-known formulations, and the polarization contribution was determined purely by geometric considerations based on both the size and anisotropic coordination of the highly polarizable halogen atom. In general, the obtained results were found to be in close agreement with the available data, except for the contribution of short-range interactions in the lattice. A quantitative explanation has been proposed to elucidate the differences detected. It was pointed out that the structural stability of these lamellar structures can be understood in terms of the anisotropic coordination of halogen anions, especially the high coordination of metal cations combined with their sizes. Our calculations led to an accurate evaluation of the cohesive energy, which, to the best of our knowledge, has never been measured before. Finally, the corresponding results will be useful for a better understanding of the chemical bonds and structural behavior of PbFCl-type compounds at high pressures.

This paper investigates nonlinear free and flexural analysis of hyperelastic beams. The constitutive relations of the hyperelastic beam were derived using the neo-Hookean strain energy function and Timoshenko beam theory. Also, the nonlinear governing equations and nonlinear natural boundary conditions were derived using Hamilton’s principle. The meshless collocation method based on the multiquadric radial basis function (MQ-RBF) was utilized to discretize the nonlinear governing equations. Also, the arc-length algorithm was used to solve the nonlinear system of equations. To validate the results of the meshless method, different boundary conditions (clamped–clamped, simply supported–simply supported, clamped–simply supported, and clamped-free) were examined, and the results obtained from the meshless method were compared with those of the finite element method in Abaqus finite element software. The results show that the maximum and minimum differences between meshless and finite element methods occur in clamped and free-boundary conditions, respectively. The results also show that the meshless method based on the MQ-RBF has good accuracy compared to the finite element method for bending and free vibration analysis of hyperelastic beams.

The prediction of Young’s modulus properties of a hybrid composite using micromechanical models based on the geometrical characteristics and individual constituent properties of materials is a challenging task for the researchers. In this work, the micromechanical and experimental approaches are used to evaluate the hybrid effect on the Young’s modulus properties of continuous banana and palmyra fiber-reinforced epoxy composites. In computational modeling, a square unit cell is employed by using ANSYS to study the effect of the fiber weight percentage and weight ratio over Young’s modulus properties along the longitudinal and transverse direction. The effectiveness of the numerical predictions is evaluated by comparing with the experimental results and analytical micromechanical models (Rule of hybrid Mixture, Halpin–Tsai (HT), and Lewis and Nielsen). In the experimental approach, the hybrid composites were fabricated with the continuous banana and palmyra fibers reinforced with epoxy by varying the fiber percentages (10%, 20%, 30% and 40%) and weight ratios (1:1, 1:3, and 3:1). The micromechanical approaches show that Young’s modulus of the hybrid composites is consistently increased with the fiber percentages. The longitudinal Young’s modulus obtained by the Lewis and Nielsen equation gave good agreement with numerical and experimental results. On the other hand, the experimental transverse Young’s modulus gave a better fit with the inverse rule of hybrid mixture as compared with other analytical model predictions.
