In this paper, we review the relation between string theory and nonequilibrium physics based on our previously published work. First, we explain why a theory of quantum gravity and nonequilibrium statistical physics should be related in the first place. Then, we present the necessary background from the recent research in nonequilibrium physics. The review discusses the relationship of string theory and aging phenomena, as well as the connection between AdS/CFT correspondence and the Jarzynski identity. We also discuss the emergent symmetries in fully developed turbulence and the corresponding nonequilibrium stationary states. Finally, we outline a larger picture regarding the relationship between nonperturbative quantum gravity and nonequilibrium statistical physics. This relationship can be understood as a natural generalization of the well-known Wilsonian relation between local quantum field theory and equilibrium statistical physics of critical phenomena. According to this picture, the AdS/CFT duality is just an example of a more general connection between nonperturbative quantum gravity and nonequilibrium physics. In the appendix of this review, we discuss a new kind of complementarity between thermodynamics and statistical physics which should be important in the context of black hole complementarity.

The purpose of this paper is to present a pedagogical review of T-duality in string theory. The evolution of the closed string is envisaged on the worldsheet in the presence of its massless excitations. The duality symmetry is studied when some of the spacial coordinates are compactified on d-dimensional torus, T^d. The known results are reviewed to elucidate that equations of motion for the compact coordinates are O(d, d) covariant, d being the number of compact directions. Next, the vertex operators of excited massive levels are considered in a simple compactification scheme. It is shown that the vertex operators for each massive level can be cast in a T-duality invariant form in such a case. Subsequently, the duality properties of superstring is investigated in the NSR formulation for the massless backgrounds such as graviton and antisymmetric tensor. The worldsheet superfield formulation is found to be very suitable for our purpose. The Hassan–Sen compactification is adopted and it is shown that the worldsheet equations of motion for compact superfields are O(d, d) covariant when the backgrounds are independent of superfields along compact directions. The vertex operators for excited levels are presented in the NS–NS sector and it is shown that they can be cast in T-duality invariant form for the case of Hassan–Sen compactification scheme. An illustrative example is presented to realize our proposal.

The aim of this work is to apply the observable-state model for the quantum field theory of a ϕⁿ self-interaction. We show how to obtain finite values for the two-point and n-point correlation functions without introducing counterterms in the Lagrangian. Also, we show how to obtain the renormalization group equation for the mass and the coupling constant. Finally, we find the dependence of the coupling constant with the energy scale and we discuss the validity of the observable-state model in terms of the projection procedure.

We obtained the Feynman propagators for a noncommutative (NC) quantum mechanics defined in the recently developed Doplicher–Fredenhagen–Roberts–Amorim (DFRA) NC background that can be considered as an alternative framework for the NC space–time of the early universe. The operators' formalism was revisited and we applied its properties to obtain an NC transition amplitude representation. Two examples of DFRA's systems were discussed, namely, the NC free particle and NC harmonic oscillator. The spectral representation of the propagator gave us the NC wave function and energy spectrum. We calculated the partition function of the NC harmonic oscillator and the distribution function. Besides, the extension to NC DFRA quantum field theory is straightforward and we used it in a massive scalar field. We had written the scalar action with self-interaction ϕ⁴ using the Weyl–Moyal product to obtain the propagator and vertex of this model needed to perturbation theory. It is important to emphasize from the outset, that the formalism demonstrated here will not be constructed by introducing an NC parameter in the system, as usual. It will be generated naturally from an already existing NC space. In this extra dimensional NC space, we presented also the idea of dimensional reduction to recover commutativity.

We extend to basic cosmology the subject of Yang–Mills gravity — a theory of gravity based on local translational gauge invariance in flat space–time. It has been shown that this particular gauge invariance leads to tensor factors in the macroscopic limit of the equations of motion of particles which plays the same role as the metric tensor of general relativity (GR). The assumption that this "effective metric" tensor takes on the standard FLRW form is our starting point. Equations analogous to the Friedmann equations are derived and then solved in closed form for the three special cases of a universe dominated by (1) matter, (2) radiation and (3) dark energy. We find that the solutions for the scale factor are similar to, but distinct from, those found in the corresponding GR based treatment.

In the noncommutative phase space, a new mapping is proposed to express the noncommutative coordinate and momentum operators in terms of the ordinary coordinate and momentum operators under the case of large noncommutativity parameters (μν>1). Using this mapping matrix, the deformed boson operators can be expressed in terms of the ordinary boson operators. Thus, the normal ordering expansion form of vacuum projection operator is obtained. As an application, the completeness relation of the two-mode deformed coherent states is verified by using the vacuum projection operator.
