In this paper, using gate structure engineering and modification of channel dopant profile, we propose a new double gate graphene nanoribbon field effect transistor (DG-GNRFET) mainly to suppress the band-to-band tunneling (BTBT) of carriers. In the new device, the intrinsic part of the channel is replaced by an intrinsic-lightly doped-intrinsic $(\mathrm{\text{I}}-{\mathrm{\text{N}}}^{-}-\mathrm{\text{I}})$ configuration in a way that only the intrinsic parts are covered by the gate contact. Transport characteristics of the device are investigated theoretically using the nonequilibrium Green’s function (NEGF) formalism. Numerical simulations show that off-current, ambipolar behavior, on/off-current ratio and the switching characteristics such as intrinsic delay and power-delay product are improved. In addition, the new device demonstrates better sub-threshold swing and less drain-induced barrier lowering (DIBL).

The nucleation and growth of silver nanoparticles in the supersaturated system are investigated by molecular dynamics simulation at different temperatures and pressures. The variety of the atoms in the biggest cluster and the size of average clusters in the system versus the time are estimated to reveal the relationship between the nucleation as well as cluster growth. The nucleation rates in different situations are calculated with the threshold method. The effect of temperature and pressure on the nucleation rate is identified as obeying a linear function. Finally, the development of basal elements, such as monomers, dimers and trimmers, is revealed how the temperature and pressure affect the nucleation and growth of the silver cluster.

Applying the bosonization and renormalization group techniques, we study a generalized Hubbard chain incorporating extra off-diagonal hopping processes in the weak regime, and determine rich ground-state phase diagrams. At half filling, in addition to the insulating phases (HI, MI and DI), there exist the superconducting phases (LE and LL). The off-diagonal hopping accounts for the occurrence of insulator–superconductor transition. Away from half filling, the transition from the LL to LE phase takes place, and the insulating phases disappear. The result provides an insignificant insight into unconventional scenarios for Cooper pairing and insulator-superconductor transition.

A general approach to design near perfect invisible ground and free space cloaks is introduced in this paper. The proposed method which is based on the optical transformation theory, leads to homogeneous constitutive parameters for the cloaks without any singularities. Moreover, the single-step mapping process with linear relations achieves an uncomplicated designing process. Invisibility performance obtained by using this approach does not depend on the incident wave direction, also. The simplicity and design flexibility of the introduced approach with the homogeneity of extracted parameters greatly facilitate the design and fabrication processes of the both proposed ground and free space invisible cloaks. The numerical simulations prove the capability and universality of the proposed design approach.

Hydrogen diffusion in a-Si:H with exponential distribution of the states in energy exhibits the fractal structure. It is shown that a probability $P(t)$ of the pausing time $t$ has a form of $t^{\alpha }$ ($\alpha$: fractal dimension). It is shown that the fractal dimension $\alpha =T_r$/$T_0$ ($T_r$: hydrogen temperature, $T_0$: a temperature corresponding to the width of exponential distribution of the states in energy) is in agreement with the Hausdorff dimension. A fractal graph for the case of $\alpha \le 1$ is like the Cantor set. A fractal graph for the case of $\alpha >1$ is like the Koch curves. At $\alpha =\infty$, hydrogen migration exhibits Brownian motion. Hydrogen diffusion in a-Si:H should be the fractal process.

An exactly solvable relativistic approach based on inseparable periodic well potentials is developed to obtain energy-dispersion relations of spin states of a single-electron in two-dimensional (2D) rectangular lattices. Commutation of axes transfer matrices is exploited to find energy dependencies of the wave vector components. From the trace of the lattice transfer matrix, energy-dispersion relations of conductance and valence states are obtained in transcendental form. Graphical solutions of relativistic and nonrelativistic transcendental energy-dispersion relations are plotted to compare how lattice parameters $V_0$, core and interstitial size of the rectangular lattice affects to the energy-band structures in a situation core and interstitial diagonals are of equal slope.

We investigate spin squeezing (SS) and the quantum Fisher information (QFI) for the Jaynes–Cummings–Dicke (JCD) model in a two-component atomic Bose–Einstein condensate (BEC) inside an optical cavity. Analytical expressions for spin squeezing and the reciprocal of the quantum Fisher information per particle (RMQFI) are derived using the frozen spin approximation. It is shown that in the superradiant phase near the critical point, maximum squeezing and maximum quantum entanglement occur and thus the critical point emerges as a useful resource for precision measurements. In the presence of decoherence and particle loss, we show that gradually with time, even though the ability of squeezing and entanglement generation are weakened, yet significant amounts are still present which can be relevant to quantum information processing and precision spectroscopy.

Ni${}_{0.65-x}$Zn${}_{0.35}$Mg${}_x$Fe₂O₄ ($0\le x\le 0.2$) with lower compositions of magnesium were synthesized by the sol–gel method and sintered at 1080${}^{\circ }$C for 4 h. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns suggest the single phase nature of the spinel-type ferrite and increase in lattice parameter for increasing magnesium content. Surface morphology reveals that grain size increases with increasing magnesium concentration. Magnesium substitution in Ni–Zn ferrites showed influence on the interatomic distance for tetrahedral A sites and octahedral B sites calculated using the standard formula. Conductivity along with dielectric measurements gives additional information on the transport mechanism for magnesium substitution in Ni–Zn ferrites calculated at lower frequencies. Both magnetic loss and dielectric loss were investigated at lower frequency to understand the losses associated with domain wall contribution for magnesium-substituted Ni–Zn ferrites.

Energy band engineering of semiconductors plays a crucial role in exploring high-efficiency visible-light response photocatalysts. Herein, we systematically study the electronic properties and optical response of Cr-, B-doped SrTiO₃, and (Cr, B)-codoped SrTiO₃ by using first-principles calculations to explore the mechanism for its superior photocatalytic activities in the visible light region. Special emphasis is placed on uncovering the synergy effects of nonmetal B dopant with metal Cr dopant at different cation sites. It is found that the electronic properties and optical absorption of SrTiO₃ can be dramatically engineered by mono- or co-doping. In particular, the intermediate levels lying in the bandgap of the codoped SrTiO₃ relay on the Cr impurity doped at Sr or Ti cation sites. Moreover, the (Cr@Sr, B@O)-SrTiO₃ retains the charge balancing without the generation of unexpected oxygen vacancies, and is more desirable for solar light harvesting due to its higher absorption than others in the entire visible light. The findings can rationalize the available experimental results and are helpful in designing SrTiO₃-based photocatalysts with high-efficiency performance.

In this paper, we study the two-dimensional (2D) ultracold Fermi gas with weak impurity in the framework of mean-field theory where the impurity is introduced through Gaussian fluctuations. We have investigated the role of the impurity by studying the experimentally accessible quantities such as condensate fraction and equation of state of the ultracold systems. Our analysis reveals that at the crossover, the disorder enhances superfluidity, which we attribute to the unique nature of the unitary region and to the dimensional effect.

Inspired by the special properties of the graph state, a quantum authentication scheme is proposed in this paper, which is implemented with the utilization of the graph state. Two entities, a reliable party, Trent, as a verifier and Alice as prover are included. Trent is responsible for registering Alice in the beginning and confirming Alice in the end. The proposed scheme is simple in structure and convenient to realize in the realistic physical system due to the use of the graph state in a one-way quantum channel. In addition, the security of the scheme is extensively analyzed and accordingly can resist the general individual attack strategies.

Due to its unique structure, graphene provides a condensed-matter model of particle physics phenomena. One is the critical charge which is highly interested. The investigation of critical charge in gapped graphene is performed within single particle approach by means of Dirac equation integration. The screened Coulomb interaction between charged defect and graphene electron excitations is investigated. Two kinds of mass gap generation and various values of substrate dielectric permittivities are considered. It is shown that the critical charge phenomenon can be observed even with quite small charges for physically motivated parameters.
