We study transport of heat in an ordered, anharmonic crystal in the form of slab geometry in three dimensions. Apart from attaching baths of Langevin type to two extreme surfaces, we also attach baths of same type to the intermediate surfaces of the slab. Since the crystal is uninsulated, it exchanges energy with the intermediate heat baths. We find that both Fourier’s law of heat conduction and the Newton’s law of cooling hold to leading order in anharmonic coupling. The leading behavior of the temperature profile is exponentially falling from high to low temperature surface of the slab. As the anharmonicity increases, profiles fall more below the harmonic one in the log plot. In the thermodynamic limit thermal conductivity remains independent of the environment temperature and its leading order anharmonic contribution is linearly proportional to the temperature change between the two extreme surfaces of the slab. A fast crossover from one-dimensional (1D) to three-dimensional (3D) behavior of the thermal conductivity is observed in the system.

A quantum mesoscopic electrical LC-circuit with charge discreteness including a Josephson junction is considered and a nonlinear Hamiltonian that describing the dynamic of such circuit is introduced. The quantum dynamical behavior (persistent current probability) is studied in the charge and phase regimes by numerical solution approaches. The time evolution of charge and current, number-difference and the bosonic phase and also the energy spectrum of a quantum mesoscopic electric LC-circuit with charge discreteness that coupled with a Josephson junction device are investigated. We show the role of the coupling energy and the electrostatic Coulomb energy of the Josephson junction in description of the quantum behavior and the spectral properties of a quantum mesoscopic electrical LC-circuits with charge discreteness.

Link prediction in complex networks has become a common focus of many researchers. But most existing methods concentrate on neighbors, and rarely consider degree heterogeneity of two endpoints. Node degree represents the importance or status of endpoints. We describe the large-degree heterogeneity as the nonequilibrium between nodes. This nonequilibrium facilitates a stable cooperation between endpoints, so that two endpoints with large-degree heterogeneity tend to connect stably. We name such a phenomenon as the nonequilibrium cooperation effect. Therefore, this paper proposes a link prediction method based on the nonequilibrium cooperation effect to improve accuracy. Theoretical analysis will be processed in advance, and at the end, experiments will be performed in 12 real-world networks to compare the mainstream methods with our indices in the network through numerical analysis.

In this paper, thermodynamic and elastic properties of the AlNi and AlNi₃ were investigated using density functional theory (DFT). The full-potential linearized augmented plane-wave (APW) in the framework of the generalized gradient approximation as used as implemented in the Wien2k package. The temperature dependence of thermal expansion coefficient, bulk modulus and heat capacity in a wide range of temperature (0–1600 K) were investigated. The calculated elastic properties of the compounds show that both intermetallic compounds of AlNi and AlNi₃ have surprisingly negative Poisson’s ratio (NPR). The results were compared with other experimental and computational data.

This research was to study the isotope effect coefficient of high temperature superconductors taking into account the pseudogap. We used the BCS-like model including the effect of the vHs density of state and pseudogap. The isotope effect coefficient was derived to the analytical and the approximation form. For the effect of vHs density of state, we found that the isotope effect coefficient increased as the critical temperature increased. For the pseudogap effect, as the critical temperature increased, the isotope effect coefficient decreased to the BCS value, 0.5. For the effect of the vHs density of state and pseudogap, we found that when the critical temperature increased, the isotope effect coefficient decreased. Finally, we showed our numerical results that can fit well with the experimental data of YBa${}_{2-x}$La${}_x$Cu₃O${}_{7-\delta }$ and Y${}_{1-x}$Pr${}_x$Ba₂Cu₃O${}_{6.92}$ superconductors.

Energy potentials with double-well structures are typical in atoms and molecules systems. A manipulation scheme using Half Cycles Pulses (HCPs) is proposed to transfer a Gaussian wave packet between the two wells. On the basis of quantum mechanical simulations, the time evolution and the energy distribution of the wave packet are evaluated. The effect of time parameters, amplitude, and number of HCPs on spatial and energy distribution of the final state and transfer efficiency are investigated. After a carefully tailored HCPs sequence is applied to the initial wave packet localized in one well, the final state is a wave packet localized in the other well and populated at the lower energy levels with narrower distribution. The present scheme could be used to control molecular reactions and to prepare atoms with large dipole moments.

In this paper, we have calculated the band structure of an instance of one-dimensional photonic crystal (1DPC) composed of double-layered dielectrics via the Fresnel coefficients method. Then, we supposed the addition of a thin layer of graphene to each dielectric layer and the given photonic crystal (PC) composed of dielectric–graphene composites. The effects of graphene layers on the PC band structure were evaluated. We found out that according to the effective medium theory unlike the TE polarization, the electric permittivity of the dielectric layers changed at TM polarization. As such, the band structure of PC for TM polarization changed, too. Moreover, instead of bandgap related to “zero averaged refractive index” an approximately omnidirectional bandgap appeared and a related bandgap to “$𝜀$ = 0” disappeared. In addition, a new angular gap branch appeared at a new frequency at TM polarization in which the width of gap increased as the angle increased.

In this work, the segregation and structural transitions of CoNi clusters, between 1500 and 300 K, have been investigated using molecular dynamics simulations with the embedded atom method potential. The radial distribution function was used to analyze the segregation during the cooling processes. It is found that Co atoms segregate to the inside and Ni atoms preferably to the surface during the cooling processes, the Co${}_{147}$Ni${}_{414}$ cluster becomes a core–shell structure. We discuss the structural transition according to the pair-correction function and pair-analysis technique, and finally the liquid Co${}_{147}$Ni${}_{414}$ crystallizes into the coexistence of hcp and fcc structure at 300 K. At the same time, it is found that the frozen structure of CoNi cluster is strongly related to the Co concentration.

When confined to small regions quantum systems exhibit electronic and structural properties different from their free space behavior. These properties are of interest, for example, for molecular insertion, hydrogen storage and the exploration of new pathways for chemical and nuclear reactions. Here, a confined three-body problem is studied, with emphasis on the study of the “quantum scars” associated to dynamical collisions. For the particular case of nuclear reactions, it is proposed that a molecular cage might simply be used as a confining device with the collision states accessed by quantum control techniques.

The traditional traffic microscopic simulation models consider driver and vehicle as a single unit to represent the movements of drivers in a traffic stream. Due to this very fact, the traditional car-following models have the driver behavior related parameters, but ignore the vehicle related aspects. This approach is appropriate for homogeneous traffic conditions where car is the major vehicle type. However, in heterogeneous traffic conditions where multiple vehicle types are present, it becomes important to incorporate the vehicle related parameters exclusively to account for the varying dynamic and static characteristics. Thus, this paper presents a driver-vehicle integrated model hinged on the principles involved in physics-based spring-mass-damper mechanical system. While the spring constant represents the driver’s aggressiveness, the damping constant and the mass component take care of the stability and size/weight related aspects, respectively. The proposed model when tested, behaved pragmatically in representing the vehicle-type dependent longitudinal movements of vehicles.

We report the reflectivity of one-dimensional finite and semi-infinite photonic crystals, computed through the coupling to Bloch modes (BM) and through a transfer matrix method (TMM), and their comparison to the experimental spectral line shapes of porous silicon (PS) multilayer structures. Both methods reproduce a forbidden photonic bandgap (PBG), but slowly-converging oscillations are observed in the TMM as the number of layers increases to infinity, while a smooth converged behavior is presented with BM. The experimental reflectivity spectra is in good agreement with the TMM results for multilayer structures with a small number of periods. However, for structures with large amount of periods, the measured spectral line shapes exhibit better agreement with the smooth behavior predicted by BM.

We use the $\pi$-orbital axis vector (POAV) analysis to deal with large curvature effect of graphene in the tight-binding model. To test the validities of pseudo-magnetic fields (PMFs) derived from the tight-binding model and the model with Dirac equation coupled to a curved surface, we propose two types of spatially constant-field topographies for strongly-curved graphene nanobubbles, which correspond to these two models, respectively. It is shown from the latter model that the PMF induced by any spherical graphene nanobubble is always equivalent to the magnetic field caused by one magnetic monopole charge distributed on a complete spherical surface with the same radius. Such a PMF might be attributed to the isometry breaking of a graphene layer attached conformably to a spherical substrate with adhesion.

Within the framework of effective-mass envelope-function theory, the ground state binding energy of a hydrogenic donor impurity is calculated in the InGaAsP/InP concentric double quantum rings (CDQRs) using the plane wave method. The effects of geometry, impurity position, external electric field and alloy composition on binding energy are considered. It is shown that the peak value of the binding energy appears in two rings with large gap as the donor impurity moves along the radial direction. The binding energy reaches the peak value at the center of ring height when the donor impurity moves along the axial direction. The binding energy shows nonlinear variation with the increase of ring height. With the external electric field applied along the z-axis, the binding energy of the donor impurity located at z${}_i\ge 0$ decreases while that located at z${}_i<0$ increases. In addition, the binding energy decreases with increasing Ga composition, but increases with the increasing As composition.

In atomic clusters, plasmon modes are generally gained by the resonant responses for external fields. However, these resonant methods still carry some defects: some plasmon modes may not have been found as that may not have been excited by the external fields. Recently, by employing the extended Hubbard model to describe electron systems of atomic clusters, we have presented the eigen-oscillation equation of charge to study plasmon modes. In this work, based on the free-electron gas model, we further explore the eigen-equation method. Under different external electric fields, some of the plasmon mode spectrums with obvious differences are found, which display the defects of the resonant methods. All the plasmon modes obtained by the resonant methods are predicted by the eigen-equation method. This effectively shows that the eigen-equation method is feasible and reliable in the process of finding plasmon. In addition, various kinds of plasmons are displayed by charge distributions, and the evolution features of plasmon with system parameters are gained by the energy absorption spectrum.
