We review the present status of the theory of high energy reactions with semi-exclusive nucleon electro-production from nuclear targets. We demonstrate how the increase of transferred energies in these reactions opens a completely new window for study of the microscopic nuclear structure at small distances. The simplifications in theoretical descriptions associated with the increase in the energies are discussed. The theoretical framework for calculation of high energy nuclear reactions based on the effective Feynman diagram rules is described in detail. The result of this approach is the generalized eikonal approximation (GEA), which is reduced to the Glauber approximation when nucleon recoil is neglected. The method of GEA is demonstrated in the calculation of high energy electro-disintegration of the deuteron and A=3 targets. Subsequently, we generalize the obtained formulae for A>3 nuclei. The relation of GEA to the Glauber theory is analyzed. Then, based on the GEA framework we discuss some of the phenomena which can be studied in exclusive reactions: nuclear transparency and short-range correlations in nuclei. We illustrate how light-cone dynamics of high-energy scattering emerge naturally in high energy electro-nuclear reactions.

The critical density of neutral pion condensation is reinvestigated based on the relativistic framework and compared with nonrelativistic results. The particle-hole and delta-hole polarizations of the pion selfenergy are calculated in the relativistic way by using a new set of Landau–Migdal parameters derived from recent experimental data. It is concluded that the use of relativistic particle-hole and delta-hole excitations for the pion selfenergy increases the critical density, but still leads to condensation for densities from two to three times the normal nuclear matter density within the random phase approximation.

The generalized hybrid derivative coupling model has been applied to explore various ground state properties of a number of deformed nuclei throughout the periodic table. In this work we have confined our calculation only to the model characterized by hybridization parameter α=1/4. For the light nuclei in the sd shell, the binding energy prediction is reasonably good while the results for charge radius, quadrupole moment and deformation are excellent. For the rare earth and actinide nuclei, the results in the heavier isotopes are reasonably good while the model fails in the lighter isotopes.

By using the background field method of QCD in a path integral approach, we derive the equation of motion for the classical chromofield and that for the gluon in a system containing the gluon and the classical chromofield simultaneously. This inhomogeneous field equation contains an induced current term, which is the expectation value of a combination of composite operators including linear, square and cubic terms of the gluon field. We also derive identities for the current from gauge invariance and calculate the current at the leading order where the current induced by the gluon is opposite in sign to that induced by the quark. This is just the feature of the non-Abelian gauge field theory which has asymptotic freedom. Physically, the induced current can be treated as a "displacement" current in the polarized vacuum, and its effect is equivalent to redefining the field and the coupling constant.

Color superconductivity of QCD at finite density, temperature and flavor asymmetry is studied within an approximation where the interaction is modeled upon four-fermion interactions. We calculate the thermodynamic potential in the so-called NJL-type model and study the phase structure at finite density, temperature and flavor asymmetry. We find that a mixed phase appears at sufficiently large flavor asymmetry and low temperature. A tricritical point in the T–μ_B–μ_I plane is also found.
