This paper presents a modular deadlock prevention policy for large-scale flexible manufacturing systems. It can find maximally permissive liveness-enforcing supervisory control in an efficient computational complexity manner. A vector covering approach is used to minimize essential set of legal markings and first-met bad markings. Providing that modules of system interact using choice, we will prove that monitor-based supervisory control methods can be applied distributedly. Then, choice operator of Petri net will be used to synthesis subsystems. Even if such assumption limits the application of modular monitor-based supervisory control, the proposed results constitute a primary step towards a synthesis procedure that overcomes time and space complexity of monitor-based deadlock prevention policies.

This paper focuses on imperfect manufacturing system with remanufacturing, manufacturing and product returned cycle for a single item which deteriorates with respect to time. The product has maximum fixed lifetime. To decrease deterioration of the product, manufacturer spends capitals on preservation technology to preserve the item. In this paper, the effect of inflation is also considered. Here, time-dependent quadratic demand is debated which is suitable for the products whose demand increases initially and afterward it starts to decrease. The objective is to minimize the total cost of manufacturer with respect to cycle time and investment for preservation technology. The model is supported with numerical example. Sensitivity analysis is done to derive insights for decision makers. Graphical result, in three dimensions, is exhibited with supervisory decision.

The supply chain management theory is advanced by a joint investigation of the mediating role of (a) supply chain responsiveness (SCR) (e.g., operation, logistic and supplier network responsiveness) in linking supply chain management practices (SCMP) with product development (PD) and (b) the moderating role of organization structure (OS) and research and development (R&D) in influencing the mediation. Using K. J. Preacher, D. D. Rucker and A. F. Hayes’s [Addressing moderated mediation hypotheses: Theory, methods, and prescriptions, Multivariate Behavioral Research 42(1) (2007) 185–227] moderated mediation framework, the authors tested the model with survey data from 210 White-collars of national and multinational fast moving consumer goods companies operating in Pakistan. Results showed that SCR mediated the relationship between supply chain management practices with product development. Moderated mediation analyses further revealed that organization structure moderated the mediation for supply chain management practices with supply chain responsiveness, whereas research and development moderated the mediation for supply chain responsiveness and product development. Additionally, theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

A piezoresistive accelerometer is the first element of a vibration measurement chain, and its improvement can enhance measurement quality. In this paper, we have developed a new formula that links the movement acceleration as a function of the natural frequency and the damping rate of the piezoresistive accelerometer in first time, and movement acceleration as a function of the measurement error in second time. This model allows the decrease of the acceleration measurement error and increases the accelerometer accuracy by choosing the right damping rate and frequency range. Finally, this new formula allows proposing new parameters for more accurate and reliable piezoresistive accelerometer.

This paper focuses on the impact of ‘cap-and-trade’ mechanism and customer’s environmental awareness on emission-dependent manufacturer. Carbon emission cap from the perspective of government will be confirmed. In the ‘cap-and-trade’ system, emission permit becomes one of the key factors of production for emission-dependent firms. If the cap is insufficient to satisfy the target production, extra permit should be purchased via trading, otherwise, the remaining permit will be sold to other firms. Since the product demand has been influenced due to the consideration of customer environmental awareness, the production will be decided by analyzing the produced decision-making process of the emission-dependent firm in this case. Base on the consideration of improving environment benefits, carbon emission cap of this kind of manufacturer will be determined. Additionally, numerical analysis is considered. We found that it is profitable for the manufacturer investing; meanwhile, the emission intensity of this manufacturer is ameliorative. And emission reduction investment should be encouraged by the environmental administration in some way of preferential policy.
