This case study demonstrates how we have designed a knowledge management project around story-telling ("narrative" feedback). The aim is to create a global virtual space for sharing of good and bad experiences from the commissioning pilot. This project is also designed to help senior managers understand the experiences of the pilot phase of a major change programme within the British Council. The change programme (referred to as commissioning change programme) is about introducing a new internal model/process to release funding to support new products and services' development and implementation.

The research design is informed by Dervin's sense-making theory and Snowden's Cynefin framework and mass narrative representation tools. Telephone and face-to-face interviews were conducted with 30 colleagues in the UK and overseas. An initial indirect question was posed to respondents—"What was your experience with the commissioning pilot?"—to capture their stories. The stories told were transcribed and indexed and patterns were identified. The analysis helps to highlight the problematic areas as well as opportunities for improvement.

This case study demonstrates the potential of using narratives to evaluate and capture learning points which can be viewed by managers and staff using multiple perspectives. This approach complements the traditional approach of producing an evaluation report which would be written for a specific group of audience, such as the senior management team.

This paper reports a case study on how knowledge is transferred through a film project and how it has been utilised. Prior literature and knowledge transfer theory is used to review the studied project and to draw recommendations on how best to utilise knowledge as well as to create an awareness on the importance of knowledge transfer in a film project. In order to gain the insight into the realm of the transfer of knowledge in the film industry, a project entitled Chemman Chaalai and produced by One Hundred Eye Sdn. Bhd. Production House was chosen. An in-depth interview approach was used to study the real phenomenon of knowledge transfer during the production of the film work.

Document clustering is a significant research issue in information retrieval and text mining. Traditionally, most clustering methods were based on the vector space model which has a few limitations such as high dimensionality and weakness in handling synonymous and polysemous problems. Latent semantic indexing (LSI) is able to deal with such problems to some extent. Previous studies have shown that using LSI could reduce the time in clustering a large document set while having little effect on clustering accuracy. However, when conducting clustering upon a small document set, the accuracy is more concerned than efficiency. In this paper, we demonstrate that LSI can improve the clustering accuracy of a small document set and we also recommend the dimensions needed to achieve the best clustering performance.

This paper attempts to highlight a key source of intangible value (i.e., intellectual capital) for family-based businesses. By reviewing the merger and acquisition activity of four Mexican cases, an analysis of the consideration of various intangible assets is conducted. Consequently, we introduce the term intellectual capital in family businesses (ICFB) and define it as a sum of a set of quantitative and qualitative intangible assets affecting overall business performance. A metaphor for diagnosing the qualitative intangible assets for family businesses is then suggested encompassing a firm's soul (human capital), brain (structural capital) and heart (relational capital).

This paper reports a basic assessment of the usage of a knowledge repository called "XYZ Knowledge Repository", maintained by a company PQR for its client XYZ. Subsequently, a data mining method for finding sequential patterns in the web usage of the users was used. This captures the level of association between the web pages through two parameters, support and confidence. Depending upon the values of these two parameters, concepts of strong association, weak association and no association are realised. In case of strong association we recommended the pages be grouped together; while in the case of weak association, a link may be provided.

Organisational learning has over the years been subject of much study by scholars and managers. In the process, the organisational learning concept has been linked to many other knowledge concepts such as individual learning, learning organisation, and knowledge management. This paper draws from existing literature in organisational behaviour, human resource management, marketing, and information management, to further develop the conceptual links between organisational learning and these knowledge concepts. The paper discusses the characteristics of organisational learning and emphasises its link to individual learning, the learning organisation, and knowledge management. It contributes to the conceptual and theoretical understanding of organisational learning and its relationship to these knowledge concepts from a multidisciplinary perspective.

This paper reports the results of a survey of the adoption of knowledge management (KM) in the public administration organisations in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). The results indicate that these organisations have a good understanding of the value of their knowledge assets, that they are in the process of implementing some form of strategy to manage these assets, and that they face obstacles in this process that are mainly outside their control. The overall picture also shows that KM practices in BiH are being implemented at similar levels as other countries in all aspects except measurement and technology. This suggests that BiH needs to catch up with the more advanced countries by accelerating application of these two KM initiatives.
