The purpose of the work was to investigate the use of Social media (SM) platform among Nigerian Librarians as a Knowledge management (KM) tool. The methodology employed for this work is descriptive research design using a self-developed questionnaire which is carefully compared with available literatures. 26 different tertiary institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education, School of Nursing) covering four states in the south west Nigeria were used. Frequency count using tables, graph and charts were adopted for the analysis. From the analysis of the result, it was found that librarians have good background knowledge of SM but continuous professional development (CPD) attendance on it is just average and there seems to be more of personal interest by the librarians to learn about KM. The level of knowledge of SM as a KM tool is very high but the practice is just average, also the level of knowledge of usage of SM as KM tool is just average. On the issue of KM practices performed through SM, the sampled response is in-between. On the issue of Challenges: infrastructure, training knowledge and cost are the major ones faced by Nigerian librarians. Based on the findings, recommendations were made to improve the knowledge and skills about SM and KM together with how to use SM as a KM tool.

Twitter is a popular micro-blogging service, and one of the main means of spreading ideas and information throughout the web. In this system, participants post short status messages called tweets that are often available publicly. Recently, the exponential growth of tweets has started to draw the attention of researchers from various disciplines. Numerous research approaches in the data mining field have examined Twitter. How to automatically extract useful information from tweets has therefore become an important research topic. The aim of this paper is to bring up what's up which is a new approach of tweets mining. It is a more general approach that discovers many different trending topics from tweets in real-time. Trending topics have generated big interest not only for the users of Twitter but also for information seekers. Our trending topics are detected for a specific geographic town and compared with the top trending topics shown on Twitter. They are presented by labelled clusters that constitute an accurate description of each trending topic. Each cluster is labelled by an emerging trending topic and is composed of keywords that represent the properties of the trending topic.

To investigate the critical role that knowledge sharing enablers play in putting into practice knowledge management within schools' and impacting schools' performance. The field of knowledge management aims at enhancing performance through knowledge sharing enablers. However, not all knowledge sharing enablers have same effects. This study attempted at categorizing enablers among knowledge management users/teachers and examine whether performance changes due to these enablers. Existing literature was reviewed to shape the study design. Present research is quantitative in nature and was conducted through personal interviews to explore the proposed relationships. An instrument was adopted which was tested for validity and reliability. The research instrument was administered to respondents and 110 responses were acquired. Convenience sampling is used to select the respondents. Descriptive statistics, correlation and regression analysis were used to analyse data. The current research found that among the knowledge sharing enablers' cultural characteristics, rewards and incentives, management support, and organisation structure have significant positive relationship with schools' performance and these results supported the previous studies. The findings also indicate that growth in job and task achievement is also positively related with schools' performance. The result also revealed that knowledge sharing enablers (cultural characteristics, rewards and incentives, management support, organisation structure) are becoming important to increase teachers' motivation. The findings also reflect that among the knowledge sharing enabler's; organisation structure has more influence on employees' performance. The present research results not only confirmed theory with practice; but also presented a reference for the knowledge practitioners as well as the teachers and business professionals. The present study has revealed that setting up knowledge sharing enablers are important for implementing knowledge management and is an important mean for improving organisational performance. Knowledge sharing does not only help in managing knowledge, but instead it plays the role of enhancing organisational performance by taking on the duty of assisting and coordinating different departments in their sharing of information and knowledge.

Advancement in technologies has moved organisations from the traditional methods of strategic and tactical formulations to knowledge-based fabricated methods and strategies. Nowadays, knowledge management became an important success reason for the formulation of any strategy of every company. This knowledge dependent trend is not only dominant in developed economies and their firms, but also has attracted and motivated businesses operating in developing countries. Aiming on the degree of knowledge management influence, this study primarily tried to look at the effects of knowledge sharing (KS) on knowledge learning (KL) and organisational learning (OL), and to see the effect of OL on organisational learning culture (OLC) influencing the business performance. A research survey was conducted and obtained 214 (71%) valid responses from the sample of 500 respondents of the sales departments of six telecommunication companies. The Model fit Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) results show a positive effect of KS on KL and OL; however, KL effect on OL is insignificant. Consequently, the data did not support the effect of OL on OLC. However, OLC positively influenced organisational performance (OP). The results may guide the telecommunication companies to improve their knowledge management activities for better performance. The discussion and conclusions, managerial implications, and future research recommendations are presented at the end.

The ever-increasing amount of text generated by Twitter users contains a wealth of information about the users' state of mind. Over the years, researchers have tapped upon this resource and proposed a number of lexicons and techniques for analysing the polarity of sentiments expressed by tweets. However, we need to delve deeper to extract the emotions conveyed by them — a research direction that had not received adequate attention so far. Through this work we develop a novel Emotion Analysis lexicon that was compiled by integrating information from the domain of psychology, the lexical ontology WordNet, and a set of emoticons and slangs commonly used in web jargon. We use this lexicon to find the predominant emotions carried by tweets originating from three different cities and analysed how they evolve with time. We propose a mathematical characterisation of the evolution of emotion by introducing the concepts of Emotion Intensity and Emotion Trend and visualise them in the context of causative events. On analysis, we observed Joy to be the predominant emotion in all the three cities. However, we could discern significant differences in the responses, patterns of emotion swings and correlations between different emotion categories that reflected the uniqueness of each city.

Increasingly, powerful mobile technology, like the tablet, empowers learners to seek information in mobile learning scenarios virtually anywhere and anytime. It is important for the academic library to look at how students use their tablets for library information seeking tasks to fully understand the nature of the patron's task and the need for the tablet. This study investigates the function of mobile technology based on the information seeking task, with particular reference to the appropriateness of tablet characteristics for the information seeking task in a library online database, downloading and reading from the screen, the effect of the patron's perception on their behavioural intention (BI) to use the tablet, and a measure of the patron's acceptance. Adapting the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model requires re-specification to suit a specific information system. The re-specific model introduces new constructs and new measuring instruments. New constructs were used for exogenous predictors of the UTAUT variables as well as including integration variables namely technology characteristics and task characteristics that were explicitly contained in the task-technology fit (TTF) model. These extensions and integrations of UTAUT have been valuable in expanding our understanding of technology adoption and extending the boundaries of the theory. Our research found that TTF and performance expectancy (PE) have a direct effect on actual use (AU). In addition, we also found a significant effect of the TTF on PE which in turn influences BI to accept the tablet for library information seeking tasks. This shows the importance of TTF. Besides, the results showed that interaction with library search systems revealed the strongest effect among the exogenous variables, which ultimately determines the AU of the tablet for library information seeking tasks.

The main purpose of the present research is to identify the internal relationships among the dimensions of knowledge management from the viewpoint of social capital. The statistical population includes 50 Professors and experts in the field, who have been defined as connoisseurs. The data have been collected through the use of the researcher-designed questionnaire. The validity of the questionnaire was confirmed by content validity, and its reliability was determined by test–retest method. The results indicate that the dimensions of knowledge management, from the social capital perspective, have relatively strong, reciprocal systemic relations with each other. Among the dimensions of knowledge management studied in the research, the "leadership and management" dimension has been identified as the strongest dimension from the viewpoint of leading power, and the "intellectual capital" has been recognised as having the highest rate of dependence on the other dimensions of knowledge management regarding the social capital of knowledge management. The results obtained from the identification and evaluation of the systematic relations can be used as a guide by managers and decision-makers in designing strategic programs concerning knowledge management within the organisation while having social capital in mind.

Despite the fact that knowledge sharing has been deemed as a competitive advantage and business sustainability tools for organizations, however many researcher has underpinned the deleterious impact knowledge sharing can bring forth to an organization performance. To date, it is found that minimal empirical research has been devoted to the dark side of knowledge sharing activities. Thus, this present study aims to extend this aspect specifically on pseudo knowledge sharing (PKS). The present study was setup to investigate the influence of trust (both cognitive and affective based trust in colleagues), and Guanxi orientation (GXO) towards PKS. A survey was adopted to examine on the developed research framework of this present study. The survey is completed by 264 employees from 32 multimedia super corridor (MSC) status companies within Klang Valley. MSC status organizations are given to firms that have strong focus on information communication technology (ICT) in producing or delivering its product or services. Regression analysis was used to examine the research framework. The correlation analysis reveals that there is significant negative relationship for both affective and cognitive based trust on PKS. In the same analysis, GXO also posited a significant negative impact towards PKS.

The aim of this paper is to explore the use and applications of Knowledge Management (KM) for improving Library and Information Services (LIS) in Bangladesh. This paper seeks to address the following research questions: How KM can be used efficiently in the libraries of Bangladesh for the improvement of LIS performance? What KM tools and techniques are being used in the libraries of Bangladesh? What difficulties are faced by the information professionals for applying KM tools and techniques in the libraries of Bangladesh? What are likely to be the means or ways to overcome those difficulties? The methodology includes a combination of both quantitative and qualitative approaches. An in-depth interview method has been used to collect data using a semi-structured questionnaire consisting of open-ended and close-ended questions. The results of this study show that document management is the highly used KM tool used in the libraries of Bangladesh followed by intranet, telephones, instant messenger, groupware, digital warehouse, and web conferencing. Results also reveal that the use and application of KM in LIS supports improved access to information resources and services, enriched professional knowledge of information professionals, enhanced environment and culture of knowledge sharing, and changed work behaviour of information professionals. The study identifies that lack of awareness about KM, lack of skilled manpower, communication gap and lack of knowledge sharing, and lack of technological infrastructure are the main problems for the use and application of KM. Finally, this study suggests that creating awareness about KM, trained and skilled manpower, reducing communication gap and improved knowledge sharing, technological and knowledge infrastructure, and the use of KM system/tools are the possible ways to overcome the problems for the use and application of KM in the libraries of Bangladesh.
