Metalworking fluids (MWFs) play a crucial role in machining processes by lubricating and cooling cutting tools, reducing friction, and improving overall machining efficiency. These fluids can be classified into various types, including cutting oils, water-based fluids, and semi-synthetic or synthetic fluids. Cutting oils are often mineral-based, providing excellent lubrication in heavy-duty applications. Water-based fluids, on the other hand, are more environmentally friendly and commonly used in light to moderate machining operations. Semi-synthetic and synthetic fluids offer a balance between performance and eco-friendliness, incorporating additives to enhance their properties. Proper selection and management of MWFs are essential for optimizing tool life, surface finish, and overall productivity in metal machining applications. Research has shown that the cost of cutting fluid in machining constitutes 17% of the total production cost. In the same research, it was stated that the cutting tool cost was around 4%. This review provides an overview of the current advancements in sustainable MWFs within machining applications. It explores state-of-the-art technologies, formulations, and practices aimed at minimizing environmental impact while maintaining optimal performance in metalworking processes. The review encompasses eco-friendly additives, recycling methods, and emerging trends in the development of MWFs, emphasizing the importance of sustainable practices in the manufacturing industry.

The superconductivity in the actinide-based high entropy alloy superconductor (AHEASC) (TaNb)_x(TiUHf)${}_{1-x}$ is studied in the framework of Bardeen–Cooper–Schrieffer (BCS) theory, and McMillan’s formalism has been studied for the investigation of superconducting state (SC) parameters, viz., Coulomb pseudopotential ${\mu }^{\ast }$, electron–phonon coupling strength $\lambda$, SC transition temperature $T_C$, interaction strength $N_{0}V$, band gap $\mathrm{\Delta }$, energy or mass renormalization parameter $Z_0$, and isotope effect exponent $\delta$. BCS theory in conjunction with McMillan’s formalism has been used for the investigation. The study indicates a strong correlation between the electron–phonon interaction, and the superconducting properties of the high entropy alloy (TaNb)_x(TiUHf)${}_{1-x}$ are highly dependent on its composition. An abrupt change in the isotope effect exponent suggests the presence of additional mechanisms such as magnetic interactions, spin fluctuations, or strong electron correlations.

In order to give wide-ranging and long-lasting disease resistance that reduces rice output, breeding techniques are used such as the importance of selection assisted by markers and gene pyramiding. Bacterial leaf blight (BLB), which is carried on by the pathogen Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae, is one such disease that significantly reduces rice yield. Numerous molecular marker techniques have already been developed because molecular markers are crucial for both marker-assisted selection and gene pyramiding. Currently, DNA-based markers, sometimes referred to as molecular markers, are the most frequently employed ones. Based on the methods used to find them, the molecular markers are divided into two main types. These markers are based on hybridization and polymerase chain reaction. The morphological (traditionally based) and biochemical (enzyme-based) markers are two more types of markers that are available. The best method for preventing rice BLB disease is host plant/varietal resistance. Gene pyramiding with the help of markers offers the potential to speed up breeding operations and ensure that the host plant’s acquired resistance will last. This research explores the use, economic significance, constraints, and potential of marker-assisted selection and gene pyramiding for rice BLB disease resistance.

This study describes a facile one-pot solvothermal method for the synthesis of heterostructured (HS) Bi₂S₃–TiO₂ (BT) nanoparticles (NPs) and utilizes its potential for sensing the nitrobenzene (NB) as a fluorescent probe. The characterization of as-synthesized BT NPs endorses the mixed morphology with an average particle size of 14nm and the crystallography study depicted the orthorhombic Bi₂S₃ and tetragonal anatase TiO₂ phases. The selectivity and sensitivity of BT NPs toward NB were examined by comparing the fluorescence quenching with a few other selected organic aromatic compounds. The appreciable quenching efficiency of 97% was achieved with NB. The visual response of the BT/NB mixture was noticed under UV light ($\lambda =365$nm). The quenching parameters of the BT/NB system have been evaluated by modifying Stern–Volmer and double logarithmic equations. The results attribute the prevalence of dynamic quenching within the concentration range (0.4mM to 5mM) and beyond 5mM, both static and dynamic quenching coexist. Further, thermodynamic studies of the BT/NB system indicate the spontaneous hydrophobic interaction. Moreover, a reliable outcome has been demonstrated in the sensing application of BT NPs in real water samples.

In this investigation, the factors were oil type ($O_t$), powder type ($T_p$), and powder concentration ($C_p$) level, and the machining parameters were the voltage (V), capacitance (pf), pulse-on time ($T_{\mathrm{\text{on}}}$), and pulse-off time ($T_{\mathrm{\text{off}}}$). The output parameters were the material removal rate (MRR), and tool wear rate (TWR). Three types of oils and powders, along with their respective particle concentrations, were selected for this experiment. Neem, Karanja, and sesame oils were mixed with aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃), chromium (Cr), and nickel (Ni) powder at 4, 6, and 8gm/l, respectively, using an overhead stirrer to investigate the conditions under which the green oil powder mixed mixture yielded a higher MRR and lower TWR during the micro-EDM process of titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V) using a 0.8mm tungsten carbide (WC) tool with fixed machining parameters (240V, 100pf, 20$\mu$s $T_{\mathrm{\text{on}}}$, and 5$\mu$s $T_{\mathrm{\text{off}}}$). All the powders used in this experiment had a 32-micron (450 mesh) size. The Taguchi L${}_{27}$ orthogonal array and grey relational analysis methods were used to design and optimize the input process parameters for both responses. SEM, optical microscopic analysis, and EDS analysis were performed to examine the surface morphology, characteristics of the WC tool, and elemental composition of both the tool and the workpiece material. The optimum conditions for Karanja oil with a Cr powder mixture concentration of 4g/l resulted in higher MRR and lower TWR. However, machining with neem and sesame oils resulted in higher TWR and lower MRR.

A novel and cost-effective 2,4-dinitrophenyl hydrazine derived from Schiff base 1-benzylidine-2-(2,4-dinitrophenyl) hydrazine ( L) was designed and characterized using various spectroscopic techniques. The interaction between L and bovine serum albumin (BSA) has been carried out using UV–Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy, DSC, SEM, and molecular docking methods. The phosphate buffer ($\mathrm{\text{pH}}=7.4$) solution of BSA showed fluorescence emission maxima at 342nm. Upon addition of L to the BSA solution, it quenched the fluorescence emission at 342nm. The quenching of the fluorescence emission is due to the formation of a complex between L and BSA. The binding constant was calculated from the fluorescence titrations and found to be $6.745\times 10^6$M${}^{-1}$. Further, molecular docking analysis was carried out to establish the binding between L and BSA.

Shape memory alloys (SMAs) are potential materials in various areas such as engineering and medicine, and their applications are being studied for practical use. SMAs show competence in their main material properties in response to their working environment or external stimuli. Machining of NiTiCu10 SMAs is difficult using traditional machining because of their wide-ranging mechanical properties like high toughness, strength, and sensitivity to phase transformation temperature. Nonconventional machining methods such as electro-discharge machining (EDM) are suitable for effective machining SMAs. The work material NiTiCu10 SMA has been used in this study, and processed using the vacuum induction melting (VIM) technique. The addition of copper leads to increase in the martensitic transformation temperatures. This paper focuses on the electro-discharge drilling (EDD) of NiTiCu10 SMA using copper tool electrode. Experimental analysis of performance criteria has been evaluated by conducting experiments following one factor at a time (OFAT) approach. Machining features such as material removal rate (MRR), tool electrode wear rate (TEWR), and surface roughness (SR) have been studied by considering pulse current ($I_p$), gap voltage ($V_g$), pulse on time ($T_{\text{on}}$), pulse off time ($T_{\text{off}}$), and rotational speed of tool electrode (N). Experimental results have shown that machining at the highest $I_p$ of 12A yields the highest MRR with the value of 4.077mm³/min, whereas mcahining at $T_{\text{on}}$ of 15$\mu$s yields the lowest TEWR with the value of 0.031mm³/min. The lowest SR is 2.8$\mu$m achieved at the lowest $T_{\text{on}}$ of 15$\mu$s. Surface morphology is significant in quality evaluation in the manufacturing, and building industries because it directly determines the mechanical performance of parts, and the service life of products. Morphological investigation via scanning electron microscope (SEM) has confirmed the formation of craters, debris, microcracks, and resolidified layers. The benefit of this study has been that we have been able to select the range of significant control factors, and predict their levels, for decisive experimentation.

Angiogenesis involves the development of new blood vessels from the pre-existing vasculature. In cancer, an inappropriate or pathological angiogenesis reinforces tumor growth by feeding with nutrient and oxygen. Central to the process of angiogenesis is vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its receptor (VEGFR), as they regulate angiogenesis and vascular permeability. To stop tumor angiogenesis by cutting off the blood supply, a multitude of angiogenesis inhibitors (antiangiogenic agents or anticancer drugs) have been developed. In pursuit of developing an effective angiogenesis inhibitor, a novel pyrimidine derivative, an inhibitor of VEGFR-2 kinase activity later known as “VOTRIENT (Pazopanib)” was developed by GlaxoSmithKline and approved by the FDA in October 2009 for treatment of advanced renal cell cancer. Later, it was also approved by the FDA for the treatment of advanced soft tissue sarcoma in April 2012. In the literature, there are multiple synthetic pathways reported and the present work reviews the literature related to the synthesis of Pazopanib emphasizing applicability at a commercial scale. The main purpose of this review paper is to provide a comprehensive overview of different existing routes of synthesis with relevant comparison, reported polymorphs, and suggesting further development.

By examining the diffraction data, the microstructure of the ball-milled synthesized powder sample (${\text{Ba}}_{0.9998}$${\text{Pr}}_{0.002}$TiO₃) was characterized. Through the application of Rietveld’s powder structure refinement approach to analyze X-ray powder diffraction data of ball-milled powder mixes, structural and microstructural alterations in terms of lattice defects have been assessed in the formation of single-phase praseodymium-modified BaTiO₃. Bond lengths, bond angles, and generated locations of the ${\text{Ba}}_{0.998}$Pr₀${.}_{002}$TiO₃ ceramic have been discussed about its generated structure. X-ray diffraction with respect to the first sharp diffraction peak (FSDP) is used to study the nanostructure of void species. General equations were utilized to determine various FSDP characteristics such as interlayer separation, correlation length, nanovoid diameter and scattering vector magnitude. Although the literature reports on many properties of Pr-modified barium titanate ceramic, this sample’s quantitative analysis and nanovoid determination are presented for the first time.

Maintenance of mechanical elements is considered to be the most crucial task in industry and affects the economics, predominantly. There are many techniques available for fault diagnosis and condition monitoring of rotatory machine elements and one of the popular tools is vibration monitoring. Analyzing vibrations would be useful in supervising equipment/machine components in an attempt to detect the significant change which is the cause of growing failures or faults. Broadly speaking, it comes under prognostics and health monitoring (PHM) and prevents unexpected failure and costly repair. Proficient predictive monitoring and on-board recognition of failures is a need of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Several types of vibration analyzers and sensors are commercially available, however, their total budget is not affordable. This motivates reviewing the suitability of low-cost sensors for vibration monitoring. An inclusive review of a variety of applications wherein microelectromechanical system (MEMS)-based accelerometer is used is presented in this paper. This would support an open-design movement for creating open.
