The need for efficient image denoising methods has grown with the massive production of digital images and movies of all kinds. The distortion of images by additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) is common during its processing and transmission. This paper is concerned with dual-tree complex wavelet-based image denoising using Bayesian techniques. Indeed, one of the cruxes of the Bayesian image denoising algorithms is to estimate the local variance of the image. Here, we employ maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimation to calculate local observed variance with Maxwell density prior for local observed variance and Gaussian distribution for noisy wavelet coefficients. Evidently, our selection of prior distribution is motivated by analytical and computational tractability. The experimental results show that the proposed method yields good denoising results.

The multi physical process involving calcium ions regulate expansion and contraction of cardiac myocytes. This mechanism of expansion and contraction of cardiac myocytes is responsible for contraction and expansion of heart for pumping of blood into arteries and receiving blood into heart from vein. Thus calcium dynamics in cardiac myocytes is responsible for the activities of the myocytes cells and functioning of the heart. The specific spatiotemporal calcium ion dynamics is required to trigger, sustain and terminate activity of the cell. In this paper an attempt has been done to propose a model to study calcium dynamics in cardiac myocytes for a one-dimensional unsteady state case. The model incorporates the process like diffusion, reaction involving source and excess buffers. Appropriate boundary conditions and initial conditions have been framed. The finite element method has been employed to obtain the solution. The numerical results have been used to study the effect of buffers and source influx on calcium dynamics in cardiac myocytes.

Cardiovascular diseases have been recently shown to have a pivotal role in human death and endangers lives of many people around the world. One of the most common cardiovascular diseases is poor performance of left ventricle. In this case, the ventricle cannot pump the blood into the aorta and circulatory system with a suitable power which is required for normal circulatory system. AVICENA is a new cardiac assist device which is implanted into the aorta to help the ventricle to pump the blood into circulatory system with more power and to make a better perfusion of the coronary arteries as well.

To reach a desire value of rotational speed of the pump, a control circuit is designed for counterpulsation of AVICENA based on the outcomes from previous studies. This control circuit uses a PID controller.

The present study aims to simulate the blood flow through the balloon part of AVICENA in a heart cycle with focusing on the calculation of its pump rotational speed by controlling the electrical current of the pump. Results revealed that the desired rotational speed of the pump can be achieved according to the previous aorta pressure cycle by electrical current control which is higher during balloon inflation in comparison with balloon deflation.

These findings may have implications not only for understanding the performance of AVICENA but also to help cardiac mechanics experts to improve the shortcoming of this newborn device.

The study of electron transport properties of molecular systems could be explained on the basis of the Landauer formalism. Unfortunately, due to the complexity of the experimental setup, most of these measurements have no control over the details of the electrode geometry, rotation of molecules, variation in angle of contacts, effect of fano resonances associated with side groups attached to rigid backbones, which results in a spectrum of IV-characteristics. Theoretical models can therefore help to understand and helps to develop new applications such as molecular sensors, etc. Thus we used simulation methods that generate the required structural ensemble, which is then analyzed with Green’s function methods to characterize the electronic transport properties. In present work we had discussed applications of this approach to understand the conductance in molecular system in the direction of controlling electron transport through molecules and studied the effect of rotation of sandwiched molecule.
