The renaissance in optical spectroscopy of phthalocyanines and other tetraazaporphyrins
  • Pages:1083–1090

https://doi.org/10.1142/S1088424604000453

This review discusses how various techniques including magnetic circular dichroism (MCD), electronic absorption and emission spectra provide useful information on the spectral properties of phthalocyanines and the various factors that can influence the spectra.

Recent advances in the chemistry of corroles and core-modified corroles
  • Pages:1091–1105

https://doi.org/10.1142/S1088424604000465

The aim of this review is to highlight recent progress in the chemistry of corroles and core-modified corroles. Emphasis is put on the synthetic and coordination aspects of corroles with meso substituents and corrolazines. The overview and comparison of synthetic methods in corrole chemistry are given. An outlook of corrolazine chemistry is presented for the first time.

New porphyrin architectures and host-guest chemistry
  • Pages:1118–1128

https://doi.org/10.1142/S1088424604000489

This article reviews the recent developments that have taken place in research related to new porphyrin architectures and their host-guest chemistry, as related to a microsymposium on the same topic which was hold during the 3rd International Conference on Porphyrins and Phthalocyanines (ICPP-3). The usefulness of representative arrays, aggregates, donor-acceptor systems, and receptor motifs based on porphyrin architectures is highlighted as it applies to the fabrication of molecular devices, understanding the biomimetic electron transfer processes and recognition of bioorganic substrates.

The chemistry of porphyrazines: an overview
  • Pages:1129–1165

https://doi.org/10.1142/S1088424604000490

This review covers the main methodologies for the synthesis of porphyrazines and porphyrazine analogues. Some structural and spectroscopic properties of the complexes, especially the UV-vis absorption profiles emanating from their peripheral functionalization, the modification of the tetraazaporphyrin skeleton or the arrangement of macrocycles in a supramolecular manner, are also discussed.

Metalloporphyrin catalysts for organic synthesis
  • Pages:1166–1171

https://doi.org/10.1142/S1088424604000507

Recent advances in the use of metalloporphyrin catalysts for organic synthesis are briefly reviewed by focusing not only on asymmetric reactions but also on new systems including polymers and dendrimers. New studies on the oxidation, cyclopropanation and olefination reactions are discussed and a new application of metalloporphyrin catalysis, the cyclotrimerization of phenylethynes, is presented.
