We consider extensions of the standard model based on open strings ending on D-branes, with gauge bosons due to strings attached to stacks of D-branes and chiral matter due to strings stretching between intersecting D-branes. Assuming that the fundamental string mass scale is in the TeV range and the theory is weakly coupled, we review possible signals of string physics at the Large Hadron Collider.

The inverse seesaw mechanism of neutrino mass, i.e. , where ∊_L is small, is discussed in the context of the U(1)_Σ model. This is a gauge extension of the Standard Model of particle interactions with lepton triplets (Σ⁺, Σ⁰, Σ^-) as (Type III) seesaw anchors for obtaining small Majorana neutrino masses.

We calculate the amplitude of the de Broglie gravitational waves using the standard Einstein General Relativity. We find that these waves disappear in the limit ℏ→0 and when their source has a large mass and volume. From the experimental point of view, the knowledge of the amplitude allows to estimate the magnitude of the effect of the wave on a sphere of test particles. We propose also to measure a very special shift angle that does not change with time.

We investigate the momentum given to a protoneutron star, the pulsar kick, during the first ten seconds after temperature equilibrium is reached. Using a model with two sterile neutrinos obtained by fits to the MiniBooNE and LSND experiments, which is consistent with a new global fit, there is a large mixing angle, and the effective volume for emission is calculated. Using formulations with neutrinos created by URCA processes in a strong magnetic field, so the lowest Landau level has a sizable probability, we find that with known parameters, the asymmetric sterile neutrino emissivity might account for large pulsar kicks.

The second-order term of the approximate stress–energy tensor of the quantized massive scalar field in the Bertotti–Robinson and Reissner–Nordström spacetimes is constructed within the framework of the Schwinger–DeWitt method. It is shown that although the Bertotti–Robinson geometry is a self-consistent solution of the (Λ = 0) semiclassical Einstein field equations with the source term given by the leading term of the renormalized stress–energy tensor, it does not remain so when the next-to-leading term is taken into account and requires the introduction of a cosmological term. The addition of the electric charge to the system does not change this behavior. The near horizon geometry of the extreme quantum-corrected Reissner–Nordström black hole is analyzed. It has the AdS₂ ×S² topology and the sum of the curvature radii of the two-dimensional submanifolds is proportional to the trace of the second-order term. It suggests that the "minimal" approximation should be constructed from the first two terms of the Schwinger–DeWitt expansion

We study a class of topological black hole solutions in RSII braneworld scenario in the presence of a localized Maxwell field on the brane. Such a black hole can carry two types of charge, one arising from the extra dimension, the tidal charge, and the other from a localized gauge field confined to the brane. We find that the localized charge on the brane modifies the bulk geometry and in particular the bulk Weyl tensor. The bulk geometry does not depend on different topologies of the horizons. We present the temperature and entropy expressions associated with the event horizon of the braneworld black hole and by using the first law of black hole thermodynamics we calculate the mass of the black hole.

The non-Abelian generalization of the Holdom model, i.e. a theory with two gauge fields coupled to the kinetic mixing term g tr(F_μν(A)F_μν(B)) is considered. Contrarily to the Abelian case, the group structure G×G is explicitly broken to G. For SU(2) this fact implies that the residual gauge symmetry as well as the Lorentz symmetry is spontaneously broken. We show that this mechanism provides masses for the involved particles. Also, the model presents instanton solutions with a redefined coupling constant.

In this paper, the effect of electromagnetic field has been investigated on the spherically symmetric gravitational collapse with the perfect fluid in the presence of positive cosmological constant. Junction conditions between the static exterior and non-static interior spherically symmetric spacetimes are discussed. We study the apparent horizons and their physical significance. It is found that electromagnetic field reduces the bound of cosmological constant by reducing the pressure and hence collapsing process is faster as compared to the perfect fluid case. This work gives the generalization of the perfect fluid case to the charged perfect fluid. Results for the perfect fluid case are recovered.
