The BCS theory injected two powerful ideas into the collective consciousness of theoretical physics: pairing and spontaneous symmetry breaking. In the 50 years since the seminal work of Bardeen, Cooper and Schrieffer, those ideas have found important use in areas quite remote from the stem application to metallic superconductivity. This is a brief and eclectic sketch of some highlights, emphasizing relatively recent developments in QCD and in the theory of quantum statistics, and including a few thoughts about future directions. A common theme is the importance of symmetry transmutation, as opposed to the simple breaking of electromagnetic U(1) symmetry in classic metallic superconductors.

We find linearly independent solutions of the Goncharov–Firsova equation in the case of a massive complex scalar field on a Kerr black hole. The solutions generalize, in some sense, the classical monopole spherical harmonic solutions previously studied in the massless cases.

The complete supersymmetric classical Batalin–Vilkovisky action for 11-dimensional supergravity is presented. The action is polynomial in the scalar fermionic pure spinor superfield, and contains only a minor modification to the recently proposed three-point coupling.

We study the bound of the noncommutativity parameter in the noncommutative Schwarzschild black hole which is a solution of the noncommutative ISO(3, 1) Poincaré gauge group. The statistical entropy satisfying the area law in the brick wall method yields a cutoff relation which depends on the noncommutativity parameter. Requiring both the cutoff parameter and the noncommutativity parameter to be real, the noncommutativity parameter can be shown to be bounded as Θ > 8.4 × 10^-2l_p.

We present a class of low energy type IIB supergravity solutions of two D3-branes rotated by an angle α ∈ SU(2) in a linear dilaton pp-wave background. The D-branes bound state configuration is found to preserve 1/16 of the total type IIB supersymmetries. We also present a class of D1–D5 solution by applying T-duality on D3⊥D3 configuration.

In the tunneling framework of Hawking radiation, the quantum tunneling of massive particles in the modified Schwarzschild black holes from gravity's rainbow is investigated. While the massive particle tunneling from the event horizon, the metric fluctuation is taken into account, not only due to energy conservation but also to the Planck scale effect of spacetime. The obtained results show that, the emission rate is related to changes of the black hole's quantum corrected entropies before and after the emission. This implies that, considering the quantum effect of spacetime, information conservation of black holes is probable. Meanwhile, the quantum corrected entropy of the modified black hole is obtained and the leading correction behave as log-area type. And that, the emission spectrum with Planck scale correction is obtained and it deviates from the thermal spectrum.

In this paper, we discuss the energy–momentum problem in the realm of teleparallel gravity. The energy–momentum distribution for a class of regular black holes coupled with a nonlinear electrodynamics source is investigated by using Hamiltonian approach of teleparallel theory. The generalized regular black hole contains two specific parameters α and β (a sort of dipole and quadrupole of nonlinear source) on which the energy distribution depends. It is interesting to mention here that our results exactly coincide with different energy–momentum prescriptions in general relativity.
