We discuss an alternative implementation of the Higgs boson within the Standard Model which is possible if the renormalizability condition is relaxed. Namely, at energy scale Λ the Higgs boson interacts at tree-level only with matter fermions, while the full gauge invariance is still maintained. The interactions with the electroweak gauge bosons are induced at low energies through the radiative corrections. In this scenario the Higgs boson can be arbitrarily heavy, interacting with the Standard Model fields arbitrarily weakly. No violation of unitarity in the scattering of longitudinal electroweak bosons occurs, since they become unphysical degrees of freedom at energies Λ ~ TeV.

It has recently been claimed that Zitterbewegung has been observed. However, we argue that it is not an observable and that the authors' observations must be reinterpreted.

A special solution of Hořava–Lifshitz gravity is a black hole that in a certain limit reproduces Schwarzschild spacetime. It is shown here that the common feature of this class of Schwarzschild-like spacetimes is the presence of three distinct, non-overlapping sectors of circular geodesics corresponding to three distinct types of objects. It is also found that a photon sphere which separates ordinary matter and tachyonic sectors turns out to be a point of no return for massive particles' geodesics.

The behavior of a Bose–Einstein condensate in a homogeneous gravitational field is analyzed. We consider two different trapping potentials. Firstly, the gas is inside a finite container. The effects of the finiteness of the height of the container in connection with the presence of a homogeneous gravitational field are mathematically analyzed and the resulting energy eigenvalues are deduced and used to obtain the corresponding partition function and ensuing thermodynamical properties. Secondly, the trapping potential is an anisotropic harmonic oscillator and the effects of the gravitational field and of the zero-point energy on the condensation temperature are also considered. These results are employed in order to put forward an experiment which could test the so-called Einstein Equivalence Principle.

According to the formal holographic principle, a modification to the assumption of holographic principle in Verlinder's investigation of entropy force is obtained. A more precise relation between entropy and area in the holographic system is proposed. With the entropy corrections to the area-relation, we derivate Newton's laws and Einstein equation with a static spherically symmetric holographic screen. Furthermore, we derived the correction terms to the modified Friedmann equation of the FRW universe starting from the holographic principle and the Debye model.

We study the existence of one/two texture zeros or one/two vanishing minors in the neutrino mass matrix with μτ symmetry. In the basis where the charged lepton mass matrix and the Dirac neutrino mass matrix are diagonal, the one/two zeros or one/two vanishing minors on the right-handed Majorana mass matrix having μτ symmetry will propagate via seesaw mechanism as one/two vanishing minors or one/two texture zeros in the neutrino mass matrix with μτ symmetry respectively. It is found that only five such texture structures of the neutrino mass matrix are phenomenologically viable. For tribimaximal mixing, these texture structures reduce the number of free parameters to one. Interesting predictions are obtained for the effective Majorana mass M_ee, the absolute mass scale and the Majorana-type CP violating phases.

We construct solutions of a model which includes the Gauss–Bonnet and Born–Infeld terms for various horizon topologies (k = 0, ±1), and then the mass, temperature, entropy, and heat capacity of black holes are computed. For the sake of simplicity, we perform the stability analysis of five-dimensional topological black holes in AdS space.
