The International Symposium on "Subnuclear Physics: Past, Present and Future", held at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences from 30 October to 2 November 2011, provided an excellent occasion to highlight the achievements of an important project at CERN: the LAA project.

The question "What lies beyond the Quantized String or Superstring Theory?" and the question "What lies beyond Quantum Mechanics itself?" might have one common answer: a discretized, classical version of string theory, which lives on a lattice in Minkowski space. The size a of the meshes on this lattice in Minkowski space is determined by the string slope parameter, α′.

According to the effects of quantum gravity, we investigated the fermion tunneling from the Reissner–Nordström–de Sitter quintessence (RN–dSQ) black hole. The corrected temperature is not only determined by the mass and charge of the black hole, but also depended on the quantum number of the emitted fermion and β, which is a small value representing the effects of quantum gravity. The effects of quantum gravity slowed down the increase of the temperature and led to the remnants of the black hole. We think it is a method to avoid the information loss paradox of black holes.

In this work, we aim to identify the effects of electromagnetic field on the energy density inhomogeneity in self-gravitating plane symmetric spacetime filled with imperfect matter in terms of dissipation and anisotropic pressure. We formulate the Einstein–Maxwell field equation, conservation laws, evolution equations for the Weyl tensor and the transport equation for diffusion approximation. Inhomogeneity factors are identified for some particular cases of non-dissipative and dissipative fluids. For non-dissipative case, we analyze the inhomogeneity factor for dust, isotropic and anisotropic matter distributions while dissipative matter distribution includes the inhomogeneity factor only for geodesic dust fluid. We conclude that electric charge increases the inhomogeneity in the energy density which is due to shear, anisotropy and dissipation.

We will consider the torsional completion of gravity for a background filled with Dirac matter fields, studying the weak-gravitational non-relativistic approximation, in view of an assessment about their effective phenomenology: we discuss how the torsionally-induced nonlinear interactions among fermion fields in this limit are compatible with all experiments and remarks on the role of torsion to suggest new physics are given.

We study the classical motion of cosmic wiggly strings around black hole in spacetimes with a cosmological constant. The solutions for the cosmic wiggly string exhibit open strings lying along the circular orbit in the equatorial plane outside horizon.

Very Special Relativity (VSR), proposed by Cohen and Glashow, considers one of the subgroups of Poincaré group as the symmetry of spacetime. This paper investigates the transformations of electromagnetic fields under boosts of VSR, and by the aid of them studies the interaction energy between spin of an electron and external electromagnetic fields. Here, we argue that Thomas precession, one of the consequences of Special Relativity (SR), does not exist in HOM(2) avatar of VSR. The predictions of SR and VSR about the spin interaction energy in a certain case are compared, and despite the absence of Thomas precession in VSR, no noticeable departure is seen.
