We consider the extension of standard three-neutrino mixing with the addition of one or two light sterile neutrinos which can explain the anomalies found in short-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments. We review the results of the global analyses of short-baseline neutrino oscillation data in 3+1, 3+2 and 3+1+1 neutrino mixing schemes.

In this paper, we use the quasi-position representation of the minimum length quantum mechanics (MLQM) to study the effects of minimum length uncertainty principle (MLUP) on the quantum mechanical system up to a first-order in β. We introduce the probability density and the probability flux to discuss two problems such as particle in a box and step potential problem. For the step potential, we compute the transmission coefficient and the reflection coefficient and compare them with those of the ordinary quantum mechanics. We also discuss the harmonic oscillator problem in MLQM.

Within the framework of relativistic Thomas–Fermi (RTF) and relativistic extended Thomas–Fermi (RETF) approximations, we calculate the giant monopole resonance (GMR) excitation energies for Sn and related nuclei. A large number of nonlinear relativistic force parameters are used in these calculations. We find a parameter set is capable to reproduce the experimental monopole energy of Sn isotopes, when its nuclear matter compressibility lies within 210–230 MeV, however, it fails to reproduce the GMR energy of other nuclei. That means, simultaneously a parameter set cannot reproduce the GMR values of Sn and other nuclei.

In this work, we consider higher-dimensional structures in R²-gravity in an expanding background. We assume a Ricci scalar constant background and use this assumption as the basic constraint to find solutions. Two classes of solutions are presented in which every one includes naked singularity and wormhole geometries. Both classes of solutions show inflationary phase of expansion favored by recent acceleration of the universe. Traversability of the wormhole solutions is discussed. The possibility of satisfying or violating the weak energy condition (WEC) for wormholes is explored. For one class of solutions, particular choices of constants result in wormholes which satisfy the WEC all over the spacetime.

Charged massive matter fields of spin-0 and spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ are quantized in the presence of an external uniform magnetic field in a spatial region bounded by two parallel plates. The most general set of boundary conditions at the plates, that is required by mathematical consistency and the self-adjointness of the Hamiltonian operator, is employed. The vacuum fluctuations of the matter field in the case of the magnetic field orthogonal to the plates are analyzed, and it is shown that the pressure from the vacuum onto the plates is positive and independent of the boundary condition, as well as of the distance between the plates. Possibilities of the detection of this new-type Casimir effect are discussed.

For nonzero cosmological constant Λ, we show that the barotropic FRW cosmologies as worked out in the comoving time lead in the radiation-dominated case to scale factors of identical form as for the Chiellini dissipative scale factors in conformal time obtained recently by us in Phys. Lett. A 379, 882 (2015). This is due to the Ermakov equation which is obtained in this case. For zero cosmological constant, several textbook solutions are easily obtained as particular cases of our formulas and hypergeometric solutions are also reminded.

We revisit the implementation of the metric-independent Fock–Schwinger gauge in the Abelian Chern–Simons field theory defined in ℝ³ by means of a homotopy condition. This leads to the Lagrangian F ∧ hF in terms of curvatures F and of the Poincaré homotopy operator h. The corresponding field theory provides the same link invariants as the Abelian Chern–Simons theory. Incidentally the part of the gauge field propagator which yields the link invariants of the Chern–Simons theory in the Fock–Schwinger gauge is recovered without any computation.
