Ground states of quadratic Hamiltonians for fermionic systems can be characterized in terms of orthogonal complex structures. The standard way in which such Hamiltonians are diagonalized makes use of a certain “doubling” of the Hilbert space. In this work, we show that this redundancy in the Hilbert space can be completely lifted if the relevant orthogonal structure is taken into account. Such an approach allows for a treatment of Majorana fermions which is both physically and mathematically transparent. Furthermore, an explicit connection between orthogonal complex structures and the topological ${\mathbb{Z}}_2$-invariant is given.

A fully canonical quantization of electromagnetic field in the presence of a bi-anisotropic absorbing magneto-dielectric slab is demonstrated. The electric and the magnetic polarization densities of the magneto-dielectric slab are defined in terms of the dynamical variables modeling the slab and the coupling tensors that couple the electromagnetic field to the slab. The four susceptibility tensors of the bi-anisotropic magneto-dielectric slab are expressed in terms of the coupling tensors that couple an electromagnetic field to the slab. It is shown that the four susceptibility tensors of the bi-anisotropic magneto-dielectric slab satisfy Kramers–Kronig relations. The Maxwell’s equations are exactly solved in the presence of the bi-anisotropic magneto-dielectric slab. The tangential and the normal components of the Casimir forces exerted on the bi-anisotropic magnet-dielectric slab exactly are calculated in the vacuum state and thermal state of the total system. It is shown that the tangential components of the Casimir forces vanish when the bi-anisotropic slab is converted to an isotropic slab.

By using the conformal equivalence of f(R) gravity in vacuum and the usual Einstein theory with scalar-field matter, we derive the Hamiltonian of the linear cosmological scalar and tensor perturbations in f(R) gravity in the form of time-dependent harmonic oscillator Hamiltonians. We find the invariant operators of the resulting Hamiltonians and use their eigenstates to calculate the adiabatic Berry phase for sub-horizon modes as a Lewis–Riesenfeld phase.

This paper is devoted to systematic analysis of double charmonium production in exclusive Z-boson decays in the framework of non-relativistic quantum chromodynamics (NRQCD) and leading twist light-cone (LC) models. Theoretical predictions for branching fractions of all considered decays are presented. According to the obtained results in the case of the allowed helicity suppression rule processes, the effect of internal quark motion increases the branching fractions by a factor 1.5, while for forbidden reactions the LC predictions are strictly zero, while NRQCD ones are significantly smaller than for allowed.

In this research paper, comprehensive results on the double differential yield of ${\pi }^{\pm }$ and $K^{\pm }$ mesons, protons and antiprotons as a function of laboratory momentum in several polar angle ranges from 0–420 mrad for pions, 0–360 mrad for kaons, proton and antiproton are reported. EPOS 1.99, EPOS-LHC and QGSJETII-04 models are used to perform simulations. The predictions of these models at 90 GeV/c are plotted for comparison, which shows that QGSJETII-04 model gives overall higher yield for ${\pi }^{+}$ mesons in the polar angle interval of 0–40 mrad but for the ${\pi }^{-}$ the yield is higher only up to 20 mrad. For ${\pi }^{+}$ mesons after 40 mrad, EPOS-LHC predicts higher yield as compared to EPOS 1.99 and QGSJETII-04 while EPOS-LHC and EPOS 1.99 give similar behavior in these two intervals. However, for ${\pi }^{-}$ mesons EPOS-LHC and EPOS 1.99 give similar behavior in these two intervals. For of $K^{\pm }$ mesons, QGSJETII-04 model gives higher predictions in all cases from 0–300 mrad, while EPOS 1.99 and EPOS-LHC show similar distributions. In case of protons, all models give similar distribution but this is not true for antiproton. All models are in good agreement for p $>$ 20 GeV/c. EPOS 1.99 produce lower yield compared to the other two models from 60–360 mrad polar angle interval.

By using WKB method and considering deformed Woods–Saxon nuclear potential, deformed Coulomb potential, and centrifugal potential, the alpha decay half-lives of 68 superheavy alpha emitters have been calculated. The effect of the constant value of surface diffuseness parameter in the range of 0.1 $\le$ a $\le$ 0.9 (fm) on the potential barrier, tunneling probability, assault frequency, and alpha decay half-lives has been investigated. Significant differences were observed for alpha decay half-lives and decay quantities in this range of surface diffuseness. Good agreement between calculated half-lives with fitted surface diffuseness parameter a = 0.54 (fm) and experiment was observed.
