Quantum memory is an essential tool for quantum communications systems and quantum computers. An important category of quantum memory, called optically controlled quantum memory, uses a strong classical beam to control the storage and re-emission of a single-photon signal through an atomic ensemble. In this type of memory, the residual light from the strong classical control beam can cause severe noise and degrade the system performance significantly. Efficiently suppressing this noise is a requirement for the successful implementation of optically controlled quantum memories. In this paper, we briefly introduce the latest and most common approaches to quantum memory and review the various noise-reduction techniques used in implementing them.

We theoretically investigate the enhancement of high-order harmonic generation by numerically solving the non-Born–Oppenheimer time-dependent Schrödinger equation from the hydrogen molecular ion in a dichromatic inhomogeneous laser field. An ultrabroad supercontinuum up to 300 orders spectral width is generated. It is found that not only the inhomogeneity, but also the dichromatic field contributes to the significant extension of the harmonic cutoff compared with a monochromatic inhomogeneous laser field. Meanwhile, the long quantum paths can be suppressed and short ones can be enhanced by selecting optimized inhomogeneous parameter $\beta$, intensity and carrier envelope phase of the dichromatic inhomogeneous laser field. Furthermore, by superposing a properly selected range of the harmonic spectrum in the continuum region, an isolated 29-as pulse is generated. Both the classical theory and quantum time–frequency analysis are adopted to explain the physical mechanism.

In this paper, the issue of synchronization and anti-synchronization for fractional-delayed memristor-based chaotic system is studied by using active control strategy. Firstly, some explicit conditions are proposed to guarantee the synchronization and anti-synchronization of the proposed system. Secondly, the influence of order and time delay on the synchronization (anti-synchronization) is discussed. It reveals that synchronization (anti-synchronization) is faster as the order increases or the time delay decreases. Finally, some numerical simulations are presented to verify the validity of our theoretical analysis.

In this paper, we consider a generalized Hirota equation with a bounded potential, which can be used to describe the propagation properties of optical soliton solutions. By employing the hypothetical method and the sub-equation method, we construct the bright soliton, dark soliton, complexitons and Gaussian soliton solutions of the Hirota equation. Moreover, we explicitly derive the power series solutions with their convergence analysis. Finally, we provide the graphical analysis of such soliton solutions in order to better understand their dynamical behavior.

We propose a reflective acoustic metasurface by taking advantage of the synergetic coupling of two kinds of widely used elements, the resonant cavity and the labyrinthine beam. A full 2$\pi$ phase shift range can be obtained by varying the neck width. The structure manipulates the reflective waves on a very deep subwavelength scale with the thickness being only 1/50 of the wavelength, which eliminates the enormous obstacle in low frequency applications. The synergetic coupling of the resonant cavity and the inner labyrinthine beams provide a useful guide for the design of acoustic metasurfaces.

The fracture behavior of a long cylindrical superconductor is investigated by modeling a central crack that is induced by electromagnetic force. Based on the exponential model, the stress intensity factors (SIFs) with the dimensionless parameter p and the length of the crack a/R for the zero-field cooling (ZFC) and field-cooling (FC) processes are numerically simulated using the finite element method (FEM) and assuming a persistent current flow. As the applied field $B_a$ decreases, the dependence of p and a/R on the SIFs in the ZFC process is exactly opposite to that observed in the FC process. Numerical results indicate that the exponential model exhibits different characteristics for the trend of the SIFs from the results obtained using the Bean and Kim models. This implies that the crack length and the trapped field have significant effects on the fracture behavior of bulk superconductors. The obtained results are useful for understanding the critical-state model of high-temperature superconductors in crack problem.

The magnetic interactions and magnetocaloric effects in Ni₂Mn${}_{1.4}$In${}_{0.6-x}$R${}_x$ (x = 0–0.2) (R = Fe, Co) Heusler alloys are investigated by the first-principles and Monte Carlo method. The ab initio calculations provide a basic understanding of the competition of ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions due to the chemical disorder of the alloy compositions. The thermodynamic properties including magnetization, specific heat and magnetic entropy change are calculated by the finite-temperature Monte Carlo simulations using the exchange couplings and magnetic moments from ab initio calculation as input parameters. The results show that the Fe or Co doping in Ni₂Mn${}_{1.4}$In${}_{0.6}$ leads to an increase of magnetic moment and magnetic entropy change but a decrease of magnetic transition temperature with the increase in the Fe or Co contents. This indicates that the transition temperature and magnetocaloric properties of Ni₂Mn${}_{1.4}$In${}_{0.6}$ alloy can be tuned by substituting In atom by Fe or Co with different contents.

The Hamiltonian mean-field (HMF) model is a system of fully coupled rotators which exhibits a second-order phase transition at some critical energy in its canonical ensemble. We investigate the case where the interaction between the rotors is governed by a time-dependent coupling matrix. Our numerical study reveals a shift in the critical point due to the temporal modulation. The shift in the critical point is shown to be independent of the modulation frequency above some threshold value, whereas the impact of the amplitude of modulation is dominant. In the microcanonical ensemble, the system with constant coupling reaches a quasi-stationary state (QSS) at an energy near the critical point. Our result indicates that the QSS subsists in presence of such temporal modulation of the coupling parameter.

Computed tomography (CT) approach is extensively utilized in clinical diagnoses. However, X-ray residue in human body may introduce somatic damage such as cancer. Owing to radiation risk, research has focused on the radiation exposure distributed to patients through CT investigations. Therefore, low-dose CT has become a significant research area. Many researchers have proposed different low-dose CT reconstruction techniques. But, these techniques suffer from various issues such as over smoothing, artifacts, noise, etc. Therefore, in this paper, we have proposed a novel integrated low-dose CT reconstruction technique. The proposed technique utilizes global dictionary-based statistical iterative reconstruction (GDSIR) and adaptive dictionary-based statistical iterative reconstruction (ADSIR)-based reconstruction techniques. In case the dictionary (D) is predetermined, then GDSIR can be used and if D is adaptively defined then ADSIR is appropriate choice. The gain intervention-based filter is also used as a post-processing technique for removing the artifacts from low-dose CT reconstructed images. Experiments have been done by considering the proposed and other low-dose CT reconstruction techniques on well-known benchmark CT images. Extensive experiments have shown that the proposed technique outperforms the available approaches.

We propose an alternative definition for a Tsallis entropy composition-inspired Fourier transform, which we call “${\tau }_q$-Fourier transform”. We comment about the underlying “covariance” on the set of algebraic fields that motivates its introduction. We see that the definition of the ${\tau }_q$-Fourier transform is automatically invertible in the proper context. Based on recent results in Fourier analysis, it turns that the ${\tau }_q$-Fourier transform is essentially unique under the assumption of the exchange of the point-wise product of functions with their convolution.

In this paper, an all-optical parallel reservoir computing (RC) system with two channels for the optical packet header recognition is proposed and simulated, which is based on a semiconductor ring laser (SRL) with the characteristic of bidirectional light paths. The parallel optical loops are built through the cross-feedback of the bidirectional light paths where every optical loop can independently recognize each injected optical packet header. Two input signals are mapped and recognized simultaneously by training all-optical parallel reservoir, which is attributed to the nonlinear states in the laser. The recognition of optical packet headers for two channels from 4 bits to 32 bits is implemented through the simulation optimizing system parameters and therefore, the optimal recognition error ratio is 0. Since this structure can combine with the wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical packet switching network, the wavelength of each channel of optical packet headers for recognition can be different, and a better recognition result can be obtained.

In this study, compounds of B₆Si were irradiated using a ${}^{60}$Co gamma source that have an energy line of 1.25 MeV at the absorbed dose rates from 14.6 kGy to 194.4 kGy. Surface morphology images of the sample obtained by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) show that the crystal structure at a high absorbed doses $(D\ge 145.8\mathrm{\text{kGy}})$ starts to be destroyed. X-ray diffraction studies revealed that with increasing radiation absorption dose, the spectrum intensity of the sample was decreased 1.96 times compared with the initial value. Thermal properties were studied by Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) method in the temperature range of 30–1000${}^{\circ }$C.

In this paper, the discrete coupled modified Korteweg–de Vries equations are systematically investigated. Based on the Lax pair, N-fold discrete Darboux transformation, discrete soliton solutions, conservation laws and modulation instability are analyzed and presented.

Half-metals and spin gapless semiconductors (SGSs), which exhibit 100% spin polarization at the Fermi level, are considered important candidates for spintronics. Using first-principles calculations, we have investigated the effects of uniform strain and tetragonal distortion on the half-metallicity and spin gapless feature of inverse Heusler Ti₂YSi (Y = Fe and Co) alloys. Results show that for uniform strains, the half-metallicity occurs in the ranges of lattice parameters from 5.938 Å to 6.535 Å for Ti₂FeSi and from 5.924 Å to 6.840 Å for Ti₂CoSi. Tetragonal distortions over the ranges of −2.0% to +2.5% and −2.6% to +4.1% could destroy the half-metallicity for Ti₂FeSi and Ti₂CoSi, respectively. On the other hand, Ti₂CoSi is an SGS at lattice constants of 5.968–6.023 Å. An interesting finding is that Ti₂CoSi reproduces the SGS character with increasing the lattice parameters to 6.784–6.840 Å. Small tetragonal distortions with ±0.2% will destroy the SGS character of Ti₂CoSi.
