Correlations and Fluctuations ′98 cover

In this volume, recent results are reported on the analysis of fluctuations and correlations in all types of high energy reactions, from lepton–lepton to nucleus–nucleus collisions. The contributions range from theoretical analysis of QCD cascades and branching processes including a prediction of a helix structure of QCD strings to the analysis of Bose–Einstein correlation data in the NA22, NA44, NA49, WA93 and WA98 experiments at CERN SPS, allowing for the first time a complete reconstruction of the longitudinally expanding tubelike particle sources in these reactions. The nature and origin of dynamical fluctuations are exposed in great detail from QCD jets to disoriented chiral condensates and phase transition phenomena. Contributions to two special sessions are dedicated to the memory of Peter Carruthers and Vladimir N Gribov.
