Narrow Results

We study the phenomenological implications of breaking the Tri-Bimaximal (TBM) mixing in such a way that either first or second column of TBM mixing matrix remains invariant. We present two such textures and confront them with the experimental data. We give the predictions of these textures for atmospheric mixing angle ${𝜃}_{23}$ and Dirac-type CP violating phase $\delta$ that will be measured in the future experiments.

In this paper, structural features of quark mass matrices have been analyzed in the flavor basis which is allowed by weak basis transformations in the Standard Model. Using the latest precised data pertaining to quark mixing matrix and small quark masses, we find that the texture structure of these cannot be simplified further. However, we find enormous amount of simplification is possible wherein we have found that a single phase in the mass matrix is adequate to accommodate the CP violating phase of CKM matrix.

Non-Abelian discrete symmetry group $S_3\times Z_3$ has been used to construct quark mass matrices in the flavor basis. Interestingly, the case when $M_d$ is nondiagonal and $M_u$ is diagonal, is very much compatible with the presently refined data regarding the quark masses and mixing. However, the other case, when $M_u$ is nondiagonal and $M_d$ is diagonal, looks to be incompatible with the data.

FXGAR mass matrices (to be defined later) are a particular class of texture 4 zero hermitian mass matrices, known to be quite successful in explaining the quark mixing data. Following the spirit of quark lepton symmetry as well as assuming neutrinos to be Dirac particles, an attempt has been made to examine the viability of FXGAR mass matrices for the lepton sector. Our analysis reveals that Inverted Ordering (IO) of neutrino masses is ruled out while Normal Ordering (NO) continues to be viable.
