      Abstract:

      Recognition is considered to be a basic human mental ability in psychology [Myers and DeWall (2018); Reisberg (2013)]. It consists of identifying the objects (systems, processes, etc.), which stimulate our senses, by recalling information stored in memory. (The word recognition comes from the Latin recognoscere meaning “recall to mind”, “cognise again”, from re- “again” and cognoscere “cognise”, “to know”.) Computer pattern recognition systems just simulate this human ability. Since this human skill is one of the fundamental components of intelligence, the research into pattern recognition is one of the most important areas of Artificial Intelligence (AI) [Flasiński (2016a); Russell and Norvig (2009); Winston (1993)]…
