Since the International Journal of Uncertainty, Fuzziness and Knowledge-Based Systems published its first issue in 1993, it has made important contributions to the research field of computer science. In this study, based on the dataset of the publications published in this journal between 1993 and 2016 retrieved from Web of Science, a general overview of this journal is performed using bibliometric methods and visualized networks. First, the productive and influential publications, authors, institutions, countries/territories, and supraregions are analysed based on the total number of citations, publications, and different citation thresholds. Second, network visualization analysis is applied to illustrate the links and connections between terms by using the VOSviewer software. Moreover, the most cited journals and common author keywords of three continents, including North America, Europe, and Asia, are also presented. This paper will hopefully help researchers understand the research patterns of this journal.

The literature on Dupuytren’s contracture is vast yet little information is known as to which papers have been the most influential. The purpose of this study was to identify the 50 most cited papers on Dupuytren’s contracture and perform a citation analysis. Utilizing the Web of Science™, 23 surgical, medical, plastic and hand surgery journals were searched for papers on Dupuytren’s contracture. Resulting articles were ranked in order of times cited and each paper was analyzed for article-type, year of publication, country of origin, institution and level of evidence. The 50 most cited articles represent many important landmarks in Dupuytren’s treatment and contain several seminal works by experts in the field. Whilst the top 50 list highlights the important papers on the condition, they certainly do not provide information about the quality of the evidence of the research, as most papers presented level 4 or 5 evidence.

The detection of emerging technologies is vital for R&D managers and policymakers; hence, the bibliometric approach to analyzing papers and patents was developed. In this study, we proposed a new method, the research classification schema (RCS). We used citation network analysis to classify technologies into four categories: change-maker, breakthrough, matured, and incremental. Each technology is then plotted on the RCS based on its publication profile. A case study in the field of antennas was undertaken to evaluate the relevance and effectiveness of the RCS. The RCS method demonstrates the usefulness of the identification process of promising technologies, and therefore, the convenience of target designing research projects in universities and companies. We also discussed the effect of the resolution limit of clustering algorithms on the RCS to improve reliability.

Smart home devices are a crucial part of the Internet of Things (IoT) industry and offer advantages such as comfort and energy efficiency which can be utilized to improve well-being in home environments. These devices include smart meters, smart watches, remote-controlled lighting, heating and water consumption systems, security systems, home ventilation, door locks, smart TVs, smart speakers, refrigerators, and smart washing machines. This study conducted a bibliometric analysis of published scholarly research papers in the Scopus database from 2000 to 2023. VOSviewer and Biblioshiny R software were employed to map and visualize the documents. The findings reveal that, on a global scale, research on smart home devices has proliferated since 2013, with the USA emerging as a prominent world leader in both publications and citations. Developing domains of expertise in smart home devices include machine learning, deep learning, ambient intelligence, and intelligent sensors.

Over the past decade, research on innovation in family firms has received growing attention by scholars and practitioners around the globe with a wide range of aspects explored within the current body of literature. Despite the constantly growing number of scientific publications, research lacks a comprehensive and critical review of past and present research achievements. First, conducting a bibliometric analysis with a focus on innovation in family firms, we identify five topical clusters that help to understand the foundations of recent findings: namely ownership and governance, structural settings, organizational culture and behaviour, resources, and innovation and strategy. Second, based on a thorough literature review the major research avenues are reflected. The comparison of the results of both analyses showed the following areas for future research on family firm innovation: members‘ individual human capital and their leadership behaviour, openness to externals, cross-country comparisons, and finally the family‘s functional integrity on innovation performance.

Innovation management and research direction planning are challenged by the understanding of the technology space in which a research entity is placed. In order to succeed in the market, a given institution has to understand the relationships of its patent portfolio with the respect to competitors.

Patent databases provide useful information for exploring a given technology area, but only when such details are being properly analyzed are they able to provide fruitful insights. The approach of technology trajectories can be extended toward a more intuitive technology map.

This work presents an interactive approach to the exploration of technology space based on patents. Patents are analyzed using citation graphs, integrated with textual analysis. The technology map presents the technology topics on a landscape displaying the patent density, and the main actors in the area. The map is interactively displayed allowing the user to focus on specific patents or companies. Finally, a specific case study is provided presenting the application of this approach focusing on the area of medical, and virtual reality devices.

A longitudinal study at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) used citation analysis to analyze the reference lists of 480 master's and doctoral (M and D) theses and dissertations submitted at TUT between 2004 and 2007. The purpose was to determine what types of information sources M and D students at TUT use most, how the patterns of use differ across the seven faculties of the university, and to what extent the Library and Information Services (LIS) keeps or provides access to the journals that are mostly used by M and D students. More than 37 000 citations were analyzed over the four-year period. The study found several similarities but also some distinct differences in the use of information sources across the seven faculties of TUT. It also identified more than 60 different information sources used by M and D students. With regard to journal use, the study found that out of 3 641 different journals cited, most journals were only cited once over a period of four years. However, a small percentage of journals were highly and/or frequently cited.
