    QCD ON THE iPSC/860

Performance of the Intel iPSC/860 parallel processor for Quantum Chromodynamics codes with dynamical fermions is described. After reviewing the hardware and software environments provided by the manufacturer, the data structures appropriate for the QCD code are described. Techniques for maximum performance are briefly discussed. We achieve a speed of 10–15 Mŕlops per node depending upon how many lattice sites are located on each node.

ACCELERATOR PROSPECTS FOR HIGH ENERGY PHYSICS

This talk is an attempt to present the current accelerator field status and assured prospects for elementary particle physics. The discussed subject is so rich that many interesting and important components of the picture are inevitably missing. The talk is updated version of my talk at HEP2005 International Europhysics Conference on High Energy Physics in Lisboa, Portugal.

Ettore Majorana: The scientist and the man

Ettore Majorana was the brightest Italian theoretical physicist of the XX century (actually, Enrico Fermi regarded him as the brightest in the world of his time, and compared him to Galileo and Newton), even if to some people Majorana is often known mainly for his mysterious disappearance, in 1938, when he was 31. In this paper, we present a panoramic view of the main scientific articles published by him, as well as their significance. We also briefly outline his life, the biographical data being based on letters, documents, testimonies discovered or collected by the author during more than four decades, and contained since 1986 in Recami's book quoted in the text. Finally, extensive information and comments are added with regard to the scientific manuscripts left unpublished by Majorana. Two pictures complete the paper.

    INTRODUCTION TO COLLIDER PHYSICS

This is a set of four lectures presented at the Theoretical Advanced Study Institute (TASI-09) in June 2009. The goal of the lectures is to introduce students to some of the basic ideas and tools required for theoretical analysis of collider data. Several examples of Standard Model processes at electron-positron and hadron colliders are considered to illustrate these ideas. In addition, a general strategy for formulating searches for physics beyond the Standard Model is outlined. The lectures conclude with a brief survey of recent, ongoing and future searches for the Higgs boson and supersymmetric particles.

    INTRODUCTION TO THE LHC EXPERIMENTS

These proceedings are a summary of four lectures given at the Theoretical Advanced Study Institute in Elementary Particle Physics (TASI) in 2009. These lectures provide a basic introduction to experimental particle physics and the Large Hadron Collider experiments at CERN, with many general examples from the (still running) Fermilab Tevatron.
