The objective of this research is to determine whether there is a difference in the Ca, P, Fe, F, Mg, and Sr concentrations in teeth from children with and without cystic fibrosis (CF) as a function of age, sex of the child, maternal smoking habit, maternal drinking habit, and fluoridation of water supply. The nuclear analytical methods used were Proton-Induced X-Ray Emission (PIXE) and Proton-Induced Gamma Emission (PIGE). The findings are: (1) the concentration of Mg is higher in the teeth of children with cystic fibrosis who took antibiotics other than tetracycline (CF+NT) than in non-cystic fibrosis (NCF) teeth for the “female” category; (2) P concentration is less in (CF+NT) teeth for the “age greater than ten” group; (3) Fe concentration is greater for females in the NCF group; (4) Ca and Fe concentrations are lower for CF than for NCF in the “mother smokes” group; (5) F and Sr concentrations for CF+NT are higher for the “mother drinks” group than for the “mother does not drink” group; (6) “mother smokes” shows a depletion of Ca and Fe compared to “mother does not smoke” for CF+NT. (7) “fluoridation of water supply” shows an increase in F, except for NCF teeth.

The distribution of elements in human spinal cord was investigated on unfixed frozen cord material using PIXE technique. Distribution of Cu, Zn and Fe were not uniform in the cross section of the spinal cord and concentrations of these elements were higher in the anterior gray horn than in the other areas, while K and Cl distributed uniformly. The content of K changed along the spinsl cord from the cervical to the lumbar level. These findings are discussed in relation to current understanding of the physiology of the spinal cord.

Damp obstruction refers to the stagnation of vital energy (qi) caused by dampness resulting in dysfunction of body and limbs movement, as well as impairment of spleen and stomach digestive function. Damp obstruction is the dampness-induced imbalance of five elements; thus it serves as an ideal model for genomic study using cDNA microarray. We have performed microarray analyses to major organs of damp-obstructed rats. Cluster analysis for the expression profiles of major organs indicated that spleen, stomach, and kidney respond to dampness differently from heart, liver, lung, and brain. Gene expression profile specific to each element or group of elements was also identified. Our results are consistent with the philosophy of Chinese medicine that the five elements, metal (lung), wood (liver), water (kidney), fire (heart), and earth (spleen and stomach) coordinate by subjugation or restriction to maintain a healthy, physiological state. This is the first time that a powerful genomic tool was applied to probe the ancient theory of Chinese medicine.

The fifth industrial revolution is known as Industry 5.0 and is being evolved to focus on the personalized demand of customers. This industrial revolution is required to provide better interaction among humans and machines to achieve effective and faster outcomes. It provides a new era of personalization and solves complex problems. Digital technologies provide a new paradigm in manufacturing and eliminate repetitive jobs. It applies human intelligence to understand the requirement of a human operator. The data in manufacturing can be analyzed using machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI). This paper discusses the development of all industrial revolutions and differentiates between Industry 4.0 and Industry 5.0. Further, it identifies the significant elements and capabilities of Industry 5.0 in the manufacturing field. This paper finally identifies 17 critical components of Industry 5.0 and discusses them briefly. Intelligent machines used in this revolution are efficiently used to solve real problems. It provides higher accuracy and speeds up the industrial automation with the help of critical thinking of human resources. Industry 5.0 provides computing power to the industry, which is to facilitate the digital manufacturing systems that are built to communicate with other systems. Thus, with mass personalization, there is customer delight with higher value addition through Industry 5.0.

This article concerns various foundational aspects of the periodic system of the elements. These issues include the dual nature of the concept of an "element" to include element as a "basic substance" and as a "simple substance." We will discuss the question of whether there is an optimal form of the periodic table, including whether the left-step table fulfils this role. We will also discuss the derivation or explanation of the [n + ℓ, n] or Madelung rule for electron-shell filling and whether indeed it is important to attempt to derive this rule from first principles. In particular, we examine the views of two chemists, Henry Bent and Eugen Schwarz, who have independently addressed many of these issues.

Some people think that carbon and sustainable development are not compatible. This textbook shows that carbon dioxide (CO₂) from the air and bio-carbon from biomass are our best allies in the energy transition, towards greater sustainability. We pose the problem of the decarbonation (or decarbonization) of our economy by looking at ways to reduce our dependence on fossil carbon (coal, petroleum, natural gas, bitumen, carbonaceous shales, lignite, peat). The urgent goal is to curb the exponential increase in the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and hydrosphere (Figures 1.1 and 1.2) that is directly related to our consumption of fossil carbon for our energy and materials The goal of the Paris agreement (United Nations COP 21, Dec. 12, 2015) of limiting the temperature increase to 1.5 degrees (compared to the pre-industrial era, before 1800) is becoming increasingly unattainable (Intergovermental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), report of Aug. 6, 2021).
