As a simple demonstration of action and language integration in cognitive systems, we have compared the speeds of reading (saying) words in two experimental conditions. One condition was reading normally, i.e. reading aloud. The other was reading with your silent inner voice without making any sounds, i.e. your brain just simulates reading words without using your mouth, your tongue, nor your throat. We found reading aloud is significantly quicker than reading silently. This means that cognitive performance is facilitated with the existence of action to read.
