Preview AbstractWe are building a question-answering system to assist physicians obtaining information from a patient knowledge base. We were motivated to build this system by evidence that physicians are much more willing to use systems that provide interactive responses. Sager’s Linguistic String Parser is being used to generate responses from information formats. These responses combine information retrieved from the knowledge base with inferences made from that information.
