The concept of microfibrillar composite (MFC) has been used to create a new type of polymer composites, in which the reinforcing microfibrils are loaded with carbon nanotubes (CNT). Polyamide 66 (PA66) has been melt blended with polypropylene in a twin screw extruder with and without CNT, and thereafter cold drawn to create a fibrillar state as well as to align the CNT in the PA66 microfibrils. The drawn bristles were compression moulded at 180°C to prepare MFC plates. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) observations indicate near perfect distribution of CNT in the reinforcing PA66 microfibrils. Although the fibrillated PA66 is able to improve the tensile stiffness and strength as expected from the MFC structure, the incorporation of CNT does not exhibit any further enhancing effect. It rather adversely affects the mechanical properties due to poor interface adhesion between the matrix and the reinforcing microfibrils with the presence of CNT, as demonstrated by SEM. However, the resulting highly aligned CNT within the MFC are expected to affect the physical and functional properties of these composites.

The miscibility of microbial poly(ε-L-lysine)/carboxymethyl cellulose sodium salt (ε-PL/CMC) blends was investigated by solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance methods. ¹H spin-lattice relaxation time in the laboratory frame T₁, and in the rotating frame, T_1ρ measurements indicate that the blends are miscible at all compositions on a scale of 2–5 nm. Formation of carbamates and its reversibility were examined. ε-PL/CMC hydrogel was formed by bubbling carbon dioxide gas into ε-PL and CMC aqueous solution mixture.

In this research, an attempt is made to prepare an organic–inorganic hybrid material that aims to improve some of the physical properties of polymeric mixtures composed of polyethelyne oxide (PEO) and polystyrene (PS) by adding copper oxide (CuO) nanoparticles to the single polymers as well as by adding them to the mixture whereby 5% of nanoparticles were added to the polymer. The effect of the addition was studied by SEM and UV–Visible spectrophotometer. The energy band gaps attained by Tauc equation proved that the energy bandgaps are (from 4.4, 3.1 and 3.1eV) for nanocomposites.

In this investigation, the nanocomposites were synthesized using the physical mixing technique. This technique involved adding 20% titanium dioxide (TiO₂) to a combination of PMMA and PVA in terms of weight percentages. The physical properties of prepared nanocomposite have been examined by using scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction technique XRD, Fourier transformed infrared spectrometry (FTIR) and UV–Vis spectroscopy. XRD patterns specified that the prepared composite was mostly crystalline in nature. Scanning electron micrograph showed that TiO₂ nanoparticles were covered with a polymer blend matrix. FTIR results confirmed the presence of PVA and PMMA groups on the surface of TiO₂ NPs. The MTT assay method was utilized on the MSF-7 cell line in order to evaluate the potential anticancer properties of the produced components. The nanocomposites showed good activity on cancer cells.

Solid polymer electrolytes comprising a blend of poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and poly (vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) with different concentration of potassium hydroxide (KOH) as ionic dopant were prepared using a solution–casting technique. The conductivity was enhanced to (1.5 ± 1.1) × 10^-4S cm^-1 when 40 wt.% KOH was added. The highest conductivity exhibited when 20 wt.% ethylene carbonate (EC) and 30 wt.% propylene carbonate (PC) was added into the PVA/PVP–KOH sample electrolytes. Conductivity–temperature dependence of the plasticized samples was established to obey an Arrhenian relationship with the activation energy of the order of 0.08–0.4 eV, depending on the plasticizer concentration. Electrochemical cells of Zn|PVA/PVP–KOH + EC|MnO₂ and Zn|PVA/PVP–KOH + PC|MnO₂ have been fabricated. The discharge characteristics of the cells are considered under a constant current of 1 mA. The open circuit voltage (OCV) and discharge capacity of the cells are measured.
