The asymptotic normalization coefficient (ANC) method is used to determine the cross sections of peripheral reactions at astrophysical energies because of existence of the Coulomb barriers. In this paper, we address an estimation of the ANC of ⁸B with its single particle wavefunction obtained within the framework of relativistic mean field (RMF) theory. We test the force parameters used in the RMF theory by comparing the calculated structure properties of A = 7–9 drip-line nuclei with experimental results. Utilizing the corrected bound wavefunction of ⁸B, the ANC is obtained and that indicates the S₁₇(0) is 18.07 eV b. Additionally, we find that the root-mean-square (rms) radius for the loosely bound proton in ⁸B is 3.98 fm. This confirms that ⁸B has a proton halo structure.

Inspired by recent experimental studies of two-proton radioactivity in the light-medium mass region, we have employed relativistic mean-field plus state-dependent BCS approach (RMF+BCS) to study the ground state properties of selected even-Z nuclei in the region 20 ≤ Z ≤ 40. It is found that the effective potential barrier provided by the Coulomb interaction and that due to centrifugal force may cause a long delay in the decay of some of the nuclei even with small negative proton separation energy. This may cause the existence of proton-rich nuclei beyond the proton drip-line. Nuclei ³⁸Ti, ⁴²Cr, ⁴⁵Fe, ⁴⁸Ni, ⁵⁵Zn, ⁶⁰Ge, ^{63, 64}Se, ⁶⁸Kr, ⁷²Sr and ⁷⁶Zr are found to be the potential candidates for exhibiting two-proton radioactivity in the region 20 ≤ Z ≤ 40. The reliability of these predictions is further strengthened by the agreement of the calculated results for the ground state properties such as binding energy, one- and two-proton separation energy, proton and neutron radii, and deformation with the available experimental data for the entire chain of the isotopes of the nuclei in the region 20 ≤ Z ≤ 40.

The half-life and the $Q$-value of alpha decay in several super heavy elements are calculated. The nuclear potential is computed using the double-folding method. Using the S-matrix theory, the alpha decay is treated as a scattering problem between alpha particle and the daughter nucleus. Nuclear potential was approximated by the parameterized Woods–Saxon potential. This idea has also been extended to predict the half-life and the $Q$-value of the heaviest elements of few other alpha chains.
