Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) is an independent, nonpartisan Colorado-based nonprofit founded in 1982 with the mission to transform global energy use to create a clean, prosperous, and secure low-carbon future. RMI engages businesses, communities, institutions, and entrepreneurs to accelerate the adoption of market-based solutions that cost-effectively shift from fossil fuels to efficiency and renewables. We occupy a unique position as a business-oriented nonprofit in the energy space that is not only a think tank, but also a do tank. We drive transformative projects in markets around the world and work with partners everywhere to scale our impact and influence the energy system. We aim to better the lives of millions of people worldwide and in target populations in each region where we work — which is currently focused in the United States, China, India, Caribbean island nations, and sub-Saharan Africa.
