Rutin, also called rutoside or quercetin-3-O-rutinoside and sophorin, is a glycoside between the flavonol quercetin and the disaccharide rutinose. Although many effects of rutin have been reported in vitro and in vivo, the anti-adipogenic effects of rutin have not been fully reported. The aim of this study was to confirm how rutin regulates adipocyte related factors. In this study, rutin decreased the expressions of adipogenesis-related genes, including peroxisome proliferators, activated receptor $\gamma$ (PPAR$\gamma )$, CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein $\alpha$ (C/EBP$\alpha )$, fatty acid synthase, adipocyte fatty acid-binding protein, and lipoprotein lipase in 3T3-L1 cells. Rutin also repressed the expression of lipin1, which is an upstream regulator that controls PPAR$\gamma$ and C/EBP$\alpha$. In addition, when 3T3-L1 was transfected with lipin1 siRNA to block lipin1 function, rutin did not affect the expressions of PPAR$\gamma$ and C/EBP$\alpha$. These results suggest that rutin has an anti-adipogenic effect that acts through the suppression of lipin1, as well as PPAR$\gamma$ and C/EBP$\alpha$.

How to simply adjust the porosity of carbon materials and largely elevate the capacitive performance of supercapacitors remains interesting but challenging for us. In the present work, we have realized the two purposes by the following steps: firstly, introducing MgO as hard template into potassium hydrogen phthalate can result in the formation of hierarchical pore structures containing micropores and mesopores, whilst individually carbonizing potassium hydrogen phthalate leads to nearly complete micropores; secondly, incorporating rutin as effective redox additive into H₂SO₄ electrolyte can largely improve the capacitances as well as the energy densities by the gain/loss of two electrons and two protons. For example, the capacitances can increase 1.92 fold when carried out in a two-electrode system. Furthermore, adding 0.15mmol L⁻¹ rutin into 1mol L⁻¹ H₂SO₄ can achieve the maximum energy density up to 20.84Wh kg⁻¹ towards the MgO-templated carbon materials. More importantly, it is also inferred that higher porosity of carbon materials indeed benefits for obtaining larger pseudo-capacitive efficiency. Thereby, understanding the matching degree of redox additive’s size and that of pore within carbon matrix will help us facilitate the capacitive increase of supercapacitors.

In this study, we focus on exploring the medicinal potential of Olea Europaea L., a commonly used plant with diverse indigenous medicinal applications. The main aim is to identify promising phytoconstituents from Olea Europaea L. leaves that can act as inhibitors for the PTP-1B target, utilizing an in silico approach. The phytoconstituents were sourced from the IMMPAT database, and molecular docking was employed to assess their binding affinities. The docking results revealed that rutin (−10.05 kcal/mol) and quercetin (−8.28 kcal/mol) displayed the highest binding scores against PTP-1B, outperforming reference compounds. Furthermore, MM-GBSA calculations indicated favorable free binding energy. To ensure stability, 200 ns Molecular Dynamics simulations were conducted on the 2QBS-Rutin complex. The results revealed that the 2QBS-Rutin complex showed stable conformation throughout the simulation, maintaining consistency with RMSD values below 1 Å. This study highlights rutin and quercetin as promising phytoconstituents from Olea Europaea L. leaves, demonstrating potent-binding affinities against PTP-1B inhibitors.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a multifaceted disease that leads to higher cardiovascular events with neuronal damage, inflammation, and oxidative stress in subjects. It also causes an autonomic imbalance with the onset of the disease which disturbs the cardiac dynamics. This work demonstrates the rutin in treating the inflammation caused by hyperglycemia through nonlinear heart rate variability features in predicting diabetes using a support vector machine (SVM). The lead-I electrocardiogram was acquired from the control, experimental, and treated group of the male Wister rats ($200\pm 20$ gm and age 10–12 weeks). A dataset of 669 samples was obtained from the recorded ECG signal and taken as input vectors to the SVM. The observed results presented an accuracy of 92.9% in classifying the control and experimental group. Further, the same model with the treated group dataset showed an accuracy of 7.7% (samples nearer to the experimental group) while 92.3% of samples were close to the control group. The findings suggested the efficacy of rutin drugs in restoring the blood sugar level and the sympathovagal balance. The usefulness of the non-invasive technique in the prognosis of the disease gives direction in the design and development of the computer-aided cost-effective wearable system. However, the need for expert clinicians cannot be ignored.
