Narrow Results

This is an analytical investigation of well-known 10–12 potential of hydrogen–hydrogen covalent bond. In this research, we will make an elaboration of the well-known 6–12 Lennard–Jones potential in case of this type of bond. Though the results are illustrated in many text books and literature, an analytical analysis for these potentials is missing almost everywhere. The power laws are valid for small radial distances, which are calculated to some extent. The internuclear separation as well as the binding energy of the hydrogen molecule are evaluated with success.

Biophysical and condensed matter systems connection is of great importance nowadays due to the need for a new approach in microelectronic biodevices, biocomputers or biochips advanced development. Considering that the living and nonliving systems’ submicroparticles are identical, we can establish the biunivocally correspondent relation between these two particle systems, as a biomimetic correlation based on Brownian motion fractal nature similarities, as the integrative property. In our research, we used the experimental results of bacterial motion under the influence of energetic impulses, like music, and also some biomolecule motion data. Our goal is to define the relation between biophysical and physical particle systems, by introducing mathematical analytical forms and applying Brownian motion fractal nature characterization and fractal interpolation. This work is an advanced research in the field of new solutions for high-level microelectronic integrations, which include submicrobiosystems like part of even organic microelectronic considerations, together with some physical systems of particles in solid-state solutions as a nonorganic part. Our research is based on Brownian motion minimal joint properties within the integrated biophysical systems in the wholeness of nature.

LiFePO₄ cathode materials were prepared by a solid-state method followed by one-step heat treatment. To improve the electrochemical properties of the LiFePO₄, acetylene black (AB), citric acid (CA), and pyrene are added as carbon source, respectively. The cyclic voltammetry (CV), AC impedance and galvanostatic charge/discharge testing results showed that using the LiFePO₄-C composite such as the AB carbon source exhibits higher discharge capacity and stability than the other composite. Synthesized LiFePO₄-C/Li cells (with AB) showed that initial discharge capacity was 140.65 mA h g^-1 and at the 2nd cycle were 145.87 mA h g^-1, respectively. Morphology and electrochemical performance of the LiFePO₄ cathode materials were investigated. Furthermore, the cell was subjected to current density studies (0.1 mA cm^-2) that suggested excellent capacity retention of the cell at 25°C.

The errors caused by the transitions with large frequency offsets (nonresonant transitions) are calculated analytically for a scalable solid-state quantum computer based on a one-dimensional spin chain with Ising interactions between neighboring spins. Selective excitations of the spins are enabled by a uniform gradient of the external magnetic field. We calculate the probabilities of all unwanted nonresonant transitions associated with the flip of each spin with nonresonant frequency and with flips of two spins: one with resonant and one with nonresonant frequencies. It is shown that these errors oscillate with changing gradient of the external magnetic field. Choosing the optimal values of this gradient allows us to decrease these errors by 50%.

The quantum adder is an essential attribute of a quantum computer, just as classical adder is needed for operation of a digital computer. We model the quantum full adder as a realistic complex algorithm on a large number of qubits in an Ising spin quantum computer. Our results are an important step toward effective modeling of the quantum modular adder which is needed for Shor's and other quantum algorithms. Our full adder has the following features. (i) The near-resonant transitions with small detunings are completely suppressed, which allows us to decrease errors by several orders of magnitude and to model a 1000-qubit full adder. (We add a 1000-bit number using 2001 spins.) (ii) We construct the full adder gates directly as sequences of radio-frequency pulses, rather than breaking them down into generalized logical gates, such as Control-Not and one qubit gates. This substantially reduces the number of pulses needed to implement the full adder. (The maximum number of pulses required to add one bit (F-gate) is 15.) (iii) Full adder is realized in a homogeneous spin chain. (iv) The phase error is minimized: the F-gates generate approximately the same phase for different states of the superposition. (v) Modeling of the full adder is performed using quantum maps instead of differential equations. This allows us to reduce the calculation time to a reasonable value.

The effect of metal-free chromophores on dye-sensitized solar cell performance is investigated. Solid state dye-sensitized solar cells (ssDSCs) using different molecular sensitizers based on triphenylamine (TPA) with thiophene linkers and different alkyl chain in the donor unit have been characterized using impedance spectroscopy (IS). We show that different molecular structures play a fundamental role on solar cell performance, by the effect produced on TiO₂ conduction band position and in the recombination rate. Dye structure and its electronic properties are the main factors that control the recombination, the capacitance and the efficiency of the cells. A clear trend between the performance of the cell and the optimization level of the blocking effect of the dye structure has been identified in the solid state solar cells with Spiro-OMeTAD hole conductor.

Some people think that carbon and sustainable development are not compatible. This textbook shows that carbon dioxide (CO₂) from the air and bio-carbon from biomass are our best allies in the energy transition, towards greater sustainability. We pose the problem of the decarbonation (or decarbonization) of our economy by looking at ways to reduce our dependence on fossil carbon (coal, petroleum, natural gas, bitumen, carbonaceous shales, lignite, peat). The urgent goal is to curb the exponential increase in the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and hydrosphere (Figures 1.1 and 1.2) that is directly related to our consumption of fossil carbon for our energy and materials The goal of the Paris agreement (United Nations COP 21, Dec. 12, 2015) of limiting the temperature increase to 1.5 degrees (compared to the pre-industrial era, before 1800) is becoming increasingly unattainable (Intergovermental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), report of Aug. 6, 2021).
